If a first-world country has the body, there will be endless bickering and arguing over whether an endless litany of regulations were followed, and who to punish for not following them to the exact letter and spirit. The SEAL team had every incentive to make that carcass go away, in an irretrievable manner, ASAP: no body, no problems.
