Wait. If our forebears did it who knows how far back, then they weren't Americans. They were Brits and other Europeans and -probably some Asians, too.

True, I was thinking of the culture from which I sprang, all Western European countries, maybe one Native American out of thousands; no one knows.

Well, colonial American had its cruelties, but improved over the worst of what happened in Europe. A lot of hypocrisy and duplicity that exists to this day.

Don't have any Asian ancestors maybe many many centuries back. I don't know if they enjoyed the spectacle of suffering like some French and English did. There are accounts of persons who could not be executioners, etc., and I don't know what motivated the others, the pay, blood lust, hard to imagine.

I'm not trying to paint us as all one way or the other.
