Did U.N. remarks reveal Obama global gun control strategy?

At least one veteran Capitol Hill lawmaker is quietly looking into a revealing comment contained in remarks delivered the other day to the United Nations by Laura E. Kennedy, this country’s permanent representative to the Conference on Disarmament.

A tempest erupted when the Bellevue-based Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms uncovered a copy of Kennedy’s remarks via a website sponsored by Reaching Critical Will, which is more normally associated with nuclear proliferation and military armament concerns.

Here’s the comment that has lit everyone’s fuse:

The United States signed the Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Materials in 1997, and the Obama Administration is seeking advice and consent to ratification by the U.S. Senate.— Laura E. Kennedy, United States Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament, Delegation of the United States of America

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb told this column that his organization was contacted by a congressional staffer asking specifically where the text of Kennedy’s remarks could be found. That staffer was directed here, and provided with a copy of the presentation here.

Kennedy’s revelation that President Obama is “seeking advice and consent to ratification by the U.S. Senate” of the Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials. This country signed that agreement in 1997, but it has been languishing without Senate ratification for 14 years.

Gottlieb issued a press release, which was evidently spotted on Capitol Hill, in which he stated,

Congress needs to bring forth formal charges against Obama for any number of his Constitutional violations against his oath of office. They need to repeat the cry of impeachment every day until the election. Holder will never cooperate with the House judiciary but it will be seen as a legitimate stonewall by the Obama administration. The republicans can ride a campaign of Obama/democrat corruption straight through to 2012, no matter who the candidate.

The only reason for Obama to push for a global gun control initiative is to use it here. No one believes this will control guns in places like Africa, Mexico, or Afghanistan; too many countries have monetary or political reasons for pumping arms into these places. The idea is to bypass the Second Amendment here, in the USA, by treaty. These “laws” can only work where there’s a mostly orderly, law abiding populace and a strong government that can hammer down the nails that stick up one at a time.

I don’t think the 2012 republican strategy will include any direct attacks or even harsh criticism of Obama’s extra-legal actions, his unconstitutional end-runs, his lies and deceits or his fraudulent use of Trillion$ of taxpayers money to enrich his pals, buy votes and finance his socialistic one-world agenda.

They don’t have the backbone to stand up for America and the constitution.

Their entire strategy will be to lay the blame for the economy on him and try to convince voters to trust them to do a better job this time around. (”This time we really, really mean it - honest!”)

They might have some success in pining blame on Obama but he is slippery, they are weak willed incompetents, and the media will be going all out to get Obama reelected, so the outcome is not certain.

Obama will be out of the picture quick enough and he doesn't have the Dem Senate support for such nonsense.

Laws only function through voluntary compliance. If a substantial segment of any society refuses to comply, the law will fail miserably and there will be political change. You would think the Dems would figure this out over the last 50 years but they don't have it in them.

I do worry about guns & ammo being taxed out of existence; but that will only go so far too.

“Convention against the Illicit [...] Trafficking in Firearms”

Hmmm, I think Fast and Furious repudiates that.
