The painfully homely Bill Maher, allegedly a comedian even though he is about as funny as cancer, proves that you don't need talent to be on TV. Sure, his viewing audience is miniscule but he still has a TV show despite his abysmal ratings and distinct lack of providing anything that is even remotely associated with entertainment. Go figure.

Disclaimer: Yes, I DO watch American Idol and America's Got Talent. I like talent competition, although I can't believe some Sinatra crooner won AGT over the highly creative and unique Silhouettes or whatever their name was with the dozens of children. Never seen anything like it. They were absolutely inspiring.
