Politico won’t say if rival campaign fed them Cain story

Politico won’t say if a rival campaign fed them the story about sexual harassment allegations made against current Republican presidential front-runner Herman Cain in the 1990s.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Monday pressed reporter Ken Vogel of Politico on whether the publication relied on opposition research from one of Cain’s rivals.

“Politics are politics as you said, and certainly there are people that are digging up opposition research,” Vogel said. “I’m just not going to do anything that would identify — that would point to the identity of our original source.”

“We don’t think that the original source is as important as the actual information,” Vogel said.

The reporter said Politico “got a tip and it was from someone outside. We managed to corroborate all the details and more. We have to be clear here that this tip was sort of a general tip.”

“We’re just not going to get into the details of exactly what happened with these women beside what’s in the story,”...............What happened is probably trivial and readers would know it's only a BS complaint. Otherwise you can bet they would be giving very exlicit details.

I’m still banking on the Ron Paul camp as the source of the smear campaign.

In the vein of the “whodunit” mystery... Willard has the best motive to take out Mr. Cain. He also has the most resources to dig up dirt. I really don’t see the other more conservative candidates doing this when they know it may end up strengthening Mittens.

Interesting in how Politico is play some Freepers like they are puppets on a string. Politico is getting the reaction they are seeking.

It came right out of the Obama Chicago politics. Until proven otherwise that’s who did it. There is no way they want to debate Cain.

Pray for America

My hunch is Perry or perhaps Bachmann.

It’s going to come out if it was a pubbie. Someone won’t be able to resist taking the shot.

Ken Vogel

Is a pussy who wouldn't have the balls to write this about Comrade Hussein Baraka, Chavez, or Castro, lest he be lined up a against a wall with a cigarette or dildo in his mouth, his choice.

It was Perry, count on it. This is just the type of thing that the Marlboro man and his multiple minions of morons would do.

As I mentioned earlier, I doubt this plays out the way Perry’s campaign thinks it will.

The big difference here is that the media’s influence with these smear tactics probably will not work with the Republican base, and that’s all that matters at this point for Perry. Now, if the goal was another Anita Hill...that might work, but only in the general election - it will not work here, and will likely backfire.

Excellent analysis.

If this was a year from now, it could be an issue.

Right now I don’t think so.

It’s certainly the way he operates here in Texas...and you had that Twitter babe who works for Perry talking about it several days before it broke.

So if it is Perry, no surprise. Hopefully we find out for sure.

Anyone ever consider Newt? He has the most to gain as Cain’s supporters would probably back him more than Romney. Besides, it mitigates the baggage everyone says Newt has.

As long as we’re guessing.

Dr. Goodie Two Shoes? Naaaaan. May Be one of his closest thousand friends, but not the little weasel. A devious member of the Mormon church maybe. Or Perry wary. The latter two have the most to gain, but this is going nowhere. Politico should be sued.
