Yes, I have that concern with Newt. Everything from his support for "combating AGW" with Pelosi and that ridiculous couch ad, to his recent mindboggling stupid attack on the Paul Ryan budget (which virtually every House Republican had just courageously voted for) that he called "right wing social engineering". Newt is very smart, but seems incapable of staying focused.
Problem is, I can not generate even the slightest bit of excitement for anyone else in the race. Mitt can't be trusted on anything, Perry has so far been unable to communicate coherently, I don't think Cain is anywhere near ready to run a serious presidential campaign, Bachmann just doesn't come off well, Santorum lost his home state by 18 points in his last election, Ron Paul is a kook, Huntsman should be running in the Democratic primary, etc. I almost feel like Newt, even with all his flaws, is the only real option at the moment.
Remember, these types of elections have on occasions been decided in the Convention. None of the announced. It has happened.
Yeah, I don't buy it. One of these candidates currently in the race will emerge and win. If you are thinking Palin or someone is going to ride in and win a brokered convention, well, I think your dreaming. Like it or not, these are our candidates.
There has not been a brokered selection since the modern communications age, but it has happened. If the Republican Party nominates Mitt, it is finished. Might as well drive the last nail in the coffin. Would the "leadership" care? I am not sure. It would however be an immediate guarantee of an effective 3rd Party, and a probable Obozo re-election. (very very bad)
