You and I know it as Flyng J, those big gas-and-diesel-and-something-to-eat establishments that crop up along our interstates. They cater to big rigs, which gives me a certain comfort level, and Ive always favored them
rest areas, you can watch the ball game and take a break. You know, real America.

While I was a commercial driver, I loved the Flying J. Almost a second home. I haven't been to a Flying J in a couple of years but the food is great there. I wonder what it's like since the merger with Pilot?

Thanks for posting. I’ll make a point to stop next time I come upon one.

I believe the Pilot/Flying J CEO was also a big Fred Thompson backer last time around. Good coffee, easy-access RV and light truck diesel, and good politics. Always at the top of our stop list.

The Flying J near Black River Falls WI has absolutely the best Chicken Fried Steak on the planet. We make it a point to stop for at ANY Flying J whenever Clan Lurker is on a road trip.

"I wonder what it's (the food) like since the merger with Pilot?"Flying J is partnering up with Denny's at many of their locations now so the food is like a good Denny's with better coffee.

just drove from Chicago due E. to New Jersey
stopped at a bunch of Flying Js which I liked.
My favorite though was JoJos in Emlenton,Pennsylvania
which had lots of original stuff like rustic beams coming
down both sides off an interior peak in the restuarant with
GREAT quotes chiselled into both sides. Even a printed placemat with all the famous quotes.

They work out well for RVs too!

When I drove for traiways my very conservative boss favored Flying J. Maybe this is why.

The Flying J here in Gretna, NE had a great resturant called the Cookery, but when Pilot bought them out, they put in a Denny's.
Still a great place.

The Flying J in Franklin Ky. had the best buffet I've ever eaten. They had carving stations for roast beef, pork and turkey backed up with a huge vegetable selection. Though I was usually in a hurry to get home on Friday night,I'd somehow find the time to stop for a good supper. Good times.

Have an RV, and use FJ/Pilot whenever possible. Easy in/out and a $.02 discount if you have one of their membership cards. Agree, the food is normally of good quality and fairly priced. Being retired military, this just one more reason to support a great American company!!!

I’m glad to see Flying J supports the troops, but I have to say that I’ve always found TA centers to be cleaner and better-stocked than other stops. The lot is nicer and better laid-out.

Being more East Coast, I generally looked for TA ... Petro next.
Really, ANY lot big enough to straggle in at 2 or 3 AM and still find a spot is good enough for me.
They all have showers and food ... but mostly I wanted my bunk.

"Being more East Coast, I generally looked for TA ... Petro next."Petro is Hugo Chavez' Venezuelan oil, so it's at the very bottom of our list.
