Like many in my generation, I look back on my career and am exceedingly grateful that it began with service to my country. With military experience comes a distinct set of values that simply can’t be taught in a classroom or by starting out in the mailroom. These values are what make military men and women the ideal candidates for any job — particularly jobs in the business world. When Roger The Dodger was the qb of the Cowboys is when I became a diehard football fan. Roger, Larry Cole, Bob Lilly,
Walt Garrison were my heroes. I miss the good old days of football. I hardly recognize the game now.

I was working the front desk at a motel when a gentleman entered and asked for directions. I gave him the information. He looked at me and stated, “You were in the military.”

I asked him how he new that and he said, “Because of your attention to detail.”

I never used military jargon or gave any other hints of my military background.
