Daniel Patrick Moynihan had a great story about this psychological phenomenon: he took his granddaughter to a movie. There was a snake in the movie and his granddaughter was very fearful of snakes. She saw it, froze for a moment, turned to Moynihan, and said “Grandpa - the snake likes me!”.
