A Seattle woman who is receiving welfare assistance from Washington state also happens to live in a waterfront house on Lake Washington worth more than a million dollars.
Federal agents raided the home this weekend but have not released the woman or her husband's name because they have not officially been charged with a crime. However, federal documents obtained by KING 5 News show the couple currently receives more than $1,200 a month in public housing vouchers, plus state and government disability checks and food stamps. They have been receiving the benefits since 2003.
A federal official told KING 5 that the couple likely took advantage of a loophole, which allows low-income individuals to receive financial assistance to help them pay their rent and move away from housing projects. However, the law does not require officials to verify what type of home the benefits recipient is living in.

I really thought this was going to be a story about Patty Murray.
Very puzzling omission of name —does anyone doubt if it were something like, “Thurston Howle” that it would not have been splashed around lavishly?

Always like this for perps.
Doubtless a member of some Grievance Elite.
If what they are doing is legal there’s not much to be said about them. My contempt is for the bureaucrats and politicians who made such a thing possible.
Exactly, So what if their residence is a million dollar home? If their income is below poverty then they must be treated like everyone else. Maybe they have Hermain Cain paying the rent for them for the last 13 years?
I have seen this more than once in my area. Husband/wife have $600,000 home (A lot of house in Western PA.) and then there’s a divorce.
Husband takes all the furniture, income etc and wife gets the house. She’s never worked or spent 20 years not working and now has this big empty house, no furniture, no money etc. So should they be forced to lose their home as well as everything else just so you can say “HEY YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE POOR! LIVE LIKE IT!” instead of getting some help with food, utilities and keeping up interest payments on a mortgage?
I’m in agreement with the sentiment, don’t blame the person/recipient. Blame the state and bureaucrats that mad the system.
As if the million dollar home weren't enough, the supposedly low-income couple also gave money to various charities and traveled around the world to locales in Turkey, Tel Aviv and resort towns in Mexico, according to court records.
Similarly I would want to opt out of social security and invest that money privately, and will vote accordingly. Since, however, I am required to participate in funding such a program I intend to accept any monies for which I may someday be eligible. Also I am against a government run unemployment ‘insurance’ and want it privatized but since my participation is required I would still use it if I was ever eligible.
David Silverstein and Lyudmila Shimonova, Seattle chiropractor and his wife, accusing them of filing false claims and demanding that the couple pay back...
Shimonova took advantage of the fact that the law doesn’t require the government to verify what type of home a benefits recipient was living in.
The couples’ home was raided on Friday. They are being investigated for mail fraud, Social Security fraud and theft of government funds.
No criminal charges have been filed [names were released].
Reminds me of a medical doctor from India working in Illinois making hundreds of thousands per year, brings elderly parents to Illinois upscale community and immediately sign up for whatever benefits allowed, even visits by a medical care person to the wealthy home for the elderly mother—all paid for by the government.[told to me by medical person in same hospital few years back]

No criminal charges filed????? Give me a break. They both need to spend the next 20 years in prison as a deterrent to others. These people knew exactly what they were doing.
The problem in America is that the system gets scammed many different ways (Medicare, Medicaid, Off shore bank accounts, Welfare, Selyndra, Wall Street) and those that get caught just get a wrist slap instead of grand larceny or major felony punishment. Someone who gets caught with a small amount of drugs like marijuana probably gets more time.
