ALL of the Panhandle had not yet been accounted for, and they were TRYING to dispirit Bush voters.
Oh, it was worse than that. The networks called Florida for Gore just minutes after the polls closed in the Eastern Time Zone, while polls in the Panhandle were still open. Thousands of people standing in line gave up and went home. Later studies showed that it cost Bush between 8,000 and 13,000 votes, per John Funds book Stealing Elections.
The FL Sec. of State notified the networks in advance that no call should be made while the polls were open in the Panhandle, a request they ignored.
Bush won New Hampshire by a mere 10,000 votes. If Gore had taken this state, FL would have been irrelevant.
