These New Times Blog ^ | Jan 29, 2012 | Russell Halley

There are certain undeniable truths in life that most everyone not in recovery or denial can agree with.

Examples include facts like these:

the sun rises in the East,
the earth revolves around the sun,
the media has a liberal bias.
Everyone that is, except for members of the liberal media themselves.

The other day, the Media Research Center held a telephone news conference so that MRC President Brent Bozell could announce the launch of the ”Tell The Truth! 2012″ campaign, an ambitious undertaking designed to “document, expose and neutralize severe liberal bias in the reporting of the 2012 election campaign.”

Exactly, where and when did worldwide, liberal media bias start, anyways?

They don’t even see it as bias. They see the slanted horizon as normal...

Bozell: “You clowns are so liberally biased.”

Media Guy #1: “We are not biased. It is not bias to document the pure evil of conservative political thought.”

Media Guy #2: “Look, don’t you think it’s about time we try giving Communism a chance? Russia never got it right, but we will.”

Media Gal #3: “How can you call us biased!??? We criticize Obama every day for not going far enough to the left!”

Media Guy #4: “Every Conservative should be summarily killed. Republicans are evil. Democrats and Socialism will save us.”

When they were forced by Roosevelt and the leftists inside the US-UK alliance to do everything possible to convince the sheeple that Stalin and the Bolshevik horde were our allies.

90+% of reporters are DEMs.

75% admit it.

All of them shill for the Dems.

Does not take a smart man to see it.

It started when advertising became a science.

The dumber the audience is with their money, the higher the advertising rates.

Dems and the admen who run the media eat from the same bowl.

My theory is that it became pandemic after Henry Luce in 1964 relinquished Editor-in-Chief duties at Time, Inc. His presence in the media firmament acted to keep the rest somewhat in line.

It went all left all the time after that.

where and when did worldwide, liberal media bias start, anyways?
In the founding era up until the Civil War, the newspapers were opinionated, so much so that newspapers were famous for not agreeing about anything. But as Adam Smith famously said,
"People of the same trade seldom meet together even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public or some contrivance to raise prices."
So the predictable result of the Associated Press (founded 1848) was the homogenization of newspapers (apart from the "editorial page" ghetto) into full go-along-and-get-along mode. The rise of the AP and its indubitable propaganda power raised alarms, but the AP assured us that the famous fractiousness of the membership of the "Associated" Press guaranteed that the AP itself was "objective."

Of course the problem with declaring yourself objective is that by that very statement you make it impossible for you to even try to actually be objective (since the only way to try to be objective is to be open and forthright about your own interests - and you cannot do that at the same time that you are claiming not to have any interests).

Journalism and Objectivity

So we see that the imperatives of wire service journalism drive journalism to be utterly unselfcritical. Journalists honestly don't know that their definition of "objectivity" is functionally partisan. Democrats align themselves with the interests of journalism - which are very far from being identical to the public interest - and journalists reward them with good PR.

As a student of the press,I would say the left-wing media bias in the US really took off in the 60’s with the dramatic social changes and the biased coverage of the Vietnam War.This is when editorializing creeped into every aspect of the newspapers.

I think I really started to become aware of this bias back during the Castro revolution. The US media was 100% behind Castro, and they only started to back off a bit when they could no longer pretend he wasn’t a communist.
