While Mitt Romney may have taken a step closer to the nomination Tuesday in Florida, the scorched earth he leaves behind tells me he took a few steps further away from the White House -- and what's more, he knows it.

It was scorched the first time this was posted, too:

With enough budget, and enough advertising and research talent, I could get Donald Duck elected. And that my dear friends is the major weakness of our republic. I'm not sure there are enough clear-thinking, sane people remaining to save our beloved country.
I did a search of this title BEFORE I posted the article. Sorry for the repeat in posting it. The moderator is free to delete it. This is why for YEARS I’ve stayed away from FR....just not a warm fuzzy feeling on this board.
Good article.
Romney has attacked Newt like a rabid dog. IF and I mean IF he get’s the nomination it will be “nicey” time with Obama. Romney will not be able to contrast the difference between him and the One.
We are so screwed if Romney gets the Republican nod.
This is a place that one has to have stones and thick skin. I think it separates wolves and the sheep.
All I hear is how Newt attacked Romney!! Must be nice to have the media on your side Mittens but do not get too used to it.
Well I’ve been registered since 1999, that’s a LONG time...and I’ve been through many elections right here on FR. thanks.
Oh I totally agree! BHO has a billion dollar war chest and what’s going on now in the GOP is nothing compared to what BHO’s camp will throw at the GOP candidate!! God help us all!

If you want warm and fuzzies - talk to your family members.
I expect you meant you have not posted comments for fear of being challenged. That’s not productive. Put your ideas and opinions in the mix - good ones and bad.
We are all nekkid on FR;)
There is not ONE thing I like about MR!! Not one thing. He’s a closet Liberal from Teddy Kennedy’s state!! I will never vote for him, never!
I will just go back to my FB page......LOL
Don’t worry about the warm fuzzies, or the impolite posters...not all of us are here 24/7 and I for one hadn’t seen it the first go round.
There are alot of good guys on FR......just ignore the ones that bother you!
It’s true that you get more cold pricklies than warm fuzzies, but I, too, had not seen this article either, so you’ve done many of us a great favor in posting it. :)
I’m sure that humblegunner always gets in on the very first of all posts in order to cheerfully point out when there’s reposts. (sarc)
Must be nice to have that much time on one’s hands.
Happy to see your post. I would not have seen this if you had not posted the article.
I sometimes have trouble with the search function also.
Don’t stay away so long we are trying to build an “army”.
Nope, it's not about advertising per se either.
It's about the fact that this time around almost all GOP voters are completely committed to one thing: defeating Obama. And they will do what they think they have to do to do that.
At bottom, the race is simply about who can persuade the most people that he has the best chance to defeat Obama. Nothing else is going to budge voters.
Not even negative ads, UNLESS those ads provide information that voters assess as undermining a candidate's ability to defeat Obama. But there it's not the info that is taking a direct hit on the candidate; rather, it's how voters think that info will play out in the general that is having the impact.
BOTH Gingrich and Romney are being protected from the direct impact of negative ads by the mentality of "I don't give a damn what he's done in the past, if he can defeat Obama, I'm voting for him."
Again, the only way negative ads are working is if they bring up stuff that voters think decreases the chances that candidate can defeat Obama, and decreases his chances more than the negative stuff against the other guy decreases his chances.
To the extent negative ads are a preview of what's going to be thrown at a candidate in the general (and they are, as far as they go), this allows voters to evaluate what type of attacks they believe are more survivable against Obama.
Newt has a well-established reputation as a mean guy and a bomb-thrower. So when he attacks, it plays to type.
That’s always going to get more attention and a stronger emotional reaction.
Just like in football: the guy who’s known as a hothead is the one who usually gets the flag.
Not saying this is or is not “true” about Gingrich. Just saying it’s indisputable this is what his reputation is (it’s even why many here like him), and, fairly or not, that cuts both ways when he starts punching.
There are alot of good guys on FR......just ignore the ones that bother you!
