Prayer Request
Former Fetus

Posted on 02/12/2012 8:12:04 PM PST by Former Fetus

I have received an email from Binyamin L. Jolkovsky, Editor in Chief of Jewish World Review. He's requesting prayers for Yisroel ben Chana Tzirel, a rabbinic mentor of his. This is someone who has been more like a father to him, and is considered to be among the most prominent Orthodox rabbis in America. He was rushed to the hospital this morning and had emergency surgery.

In the words of Mr. Jolkowsky, every prayer is precious to the Almighty. The power of prayer is often spoken of. But those of us who truly believe in it, act on it.

Thanks!

Prayers for the rabbi. Am sorry to hear of the setback, and pray he overcomes and is returned to full health.

Update On Condition Of HaRav Yisroel Belsky, Shlita

[2:00PM EST] (Thursday, February 23rd, 2012)

Following an urgent request for Tehillim Wednesday afternoon, YWN has been informed that the situation by the Rosh Hayeshiva overnight was stable. His health condition remains critical and people should continue being Mispallel for Yisroel ben Chana Tzirel.

The talmidim of the Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel are planning to gather together Friday morning Rosh Chodesh Adar at 9:15am at the Kosel HaMaaravi to say [Psalms] for a refuah for the Rosh Hayeshiva. Please notify any of your family in Eretz Yisroel who could possibly join them. The S’gan Menahel, Rav Efraim Glassman is in Eretz Yisroel at this time and will be there [...] to organize the Kinnus.

Rabbi Belsky, who is the Rosh Yeshiva of Torah Vodaath in Flatbush, and one of the major Poskim in America, was rushed to the hospital by Hatzolah two weeks ago, after first suffering from a ruptured esophagus, and a collapsed lung. He also went into cardiac arrest while in the hospital, and has since undergone a few procedures.

This may be the last time I bother y'all. I understand that it is a practice in judaism to add an additional name to those nearing death. I don't understand the purpose, probably jjotto could explain it for us. The point is, I've got an email asking for prayers for CHAIM Yisroel ben Chanah Tzirel. May the Lord's will be done.

BTW, doesn't CHAIM mean "life"?

One thing I DO know is that Chaim means life. It also has a connection to the number 18, but can’t remember. Maybe the symbol in Hebrew is the same?

Prayers will continue .. as you say, Lord’s will be done.

Thank you for your diligence. Perhaps Chaim (life) is a name given at a time when one wants to honor a life well lived?
Prayers up!

Didn’t know what refuah meant so I took your advice (”Ya could look it up!”) :) and found the following..and thought I’d share for those who don’t know either.

http://refuahshlema.com/

A Prayer for Complete Healing

If you have a friend or family member who is ill and you wish to pray for them, the following Refuah Shlema Hebrew prayer may be recited to ask God for a complete and speedy recovery.

Mi-sheberakh avoteinu v’imoteinu, Avraham v’Sarah, Yitzhak v’Rivkah, Ya’akov, Rachel v’Leah hu y’varekh et (recite the English and Hebrew name) v’yavi aleihem refuat hanefesh u’refuat haguf yachad im kol cholei amo Yisrael. Barukh atah Adonai, rofeh ha’cholim.

May the One who was a source of blessing for our ancestors, bring blessings of healing upon (recite the English and Hebrew name), a healing of body and a healing of spirit. May those in whose care they are entrusted, be gifted with wisdom and skill, and those who surround them, be gifted with love and trust, openness and support in their care. And may they be healed along with all those who are in need. Blessed are You, Source of healing. Amen.

May the Lord's will be done.

I agree and since The Lord said He healed us - His will is for us to believe that the rabbi is healed by the faith of His Word/Will.

Exodus 15:26 ~ For I am the Lord that healeth thee ...

No fear because that is the absence of faith. So we thank God for the rabbi's complete healing and ALL the Glory and honor goes to God. Praise GOD!!

The last I heard, he had improved markedly but, because of his age, he was still in need of prayers. There were no more details, but prayers are still requested for CHAIM Yisroel ben Chanah Tzirel; notice the use of CHAIM, I would imagine it means he’s still in pretty serious condition. Thanks for your interest!

Thanks for the update. That was my understanding, that he’d improved dramatically, but I had no way to confirm. He is in my prayers daily.

While all are asked to continue saying Tehillim for Rav Yisroel Belsky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and one of the senior poskim of our dor, who remains hospitalized, we have received positive news regarding the rosh yeshiva. Rav Belsky was moved out of the ICU on Erev Shabbos and has been completely removed from the respirator for a while now. Rav Belsky remains under close observation of doctors and is still very weak.

With Hashem’s help, as Yidden continue to daven, it is hoped that the rosh yeshiva can return home before the upcoming Yom Tov of Pesach.

All are asked to continue davening and learning as a zechus for the rosh yeshiva, Rav Chaim Yisroel ben Chana Tzirel.
