There seems to be a coordinated carpet-bombing attack on Santorum on FreeRepublic over the past 24 hours. Far too many threads and posts attacking Santorum for it to be happenstance.

Who are you guys working for?

Don’t know who they are working for, but I’d like to work for America and stop criticizing all the republican candidates.

At this point no one is focusing on what’s good for the country and sadly that includes the candidates themselves.

I’ll vote for any of them against Obama but at this point they (and we) have created a ridiculous negative narrative.

"Who are you guys working for?"

That's uncalled for.

There are dozens of seasoned and committed Freepers on this site that are convinced Santorum will be a disaster for the GOP. Good, conservatives and patriots with the stripes to prove it.

Many have been here far more than a decade and have been fighting this war against godless communism for that long or longer.

Rather than impugn motive due to your emotional reaction, why not engage on the merits, or lack thereof, of their arguments?

Santorum is still standing, broke and unencumbered from owing his arse to the money contributors who want pay back for their investment.

I agree with you, YOU are absolutely right, the OP is Romney/Gingrich bullshit. Santorum has plenty of record in the Senate, anyone interested can look it up; he was a pretty straight arrow conservative. Why the hell do you think the entire DNC went after his Senate seat with so much money? Something’s rotten in Denmark, and in Free Republic, as well.

We refer to that as “Vetting” the candidate. What you perceive as “threats” and “attacks” on Santorum, are in reality, actual facts, taken from his pathetic record while he was a Senator.

You have kept yourself ignorant by choice. And since you were one of the nastiest of nasty Newt haters, turn about is fair play. Get used to it.

I'm not working for anyone, or anything except the return of the American government to its Constitutional limitations. But I think this article is absolutely right.

Personally, I think that Newt is by far the best nominee either party has had in many years, and I absolutely think he is the right man for the job at this critical point in our nation's history.

I'm not at all confident that Santorum can beat Obama, although I wouldn't rule it out. But there is nothing in his experience, demeanor or background that makes me think Santorum can turn this country around, even if he does get elected.

Although a lot of legitimante Freepers have opposed Santorum, it looks more and more to me as if DU has sent over a bunch of “fake Freepers” to stir up chaos and dissent.

Well I agree with the article. No one is going to follow Mr. Rogers out of the foxhole into machine gun fire wearing camy sweater vests. No one believes Gingrich is a saint, but both Romney and Santorum play one on TV. I’ll vote for the guy I can have a beer with.

We're the ones who don't shift with the winds and fall for whoever seems to have caught fire for the moment. I don't have nothing against Santorum. His conservative credentials are far less worrisome than Mitts, and he is far more able to attract the moderate and women's vote than Newt. But Santorum is a bore, and not an exciting candidate. He is no Sarah Palin when giving speeches. Not to mention a horrible debater. Name one of the debates to date that he has won? My fear is Obama would shred him up starting from the first debate. Maybe he will mature as a candidate and shock me, but he has a lot to do and very little time to do it in.

The so called “Reaganite Republican” appears to be violating the 11th commandment of Republicans, as stated by Ronald Reagan - do not speak ill of your fellow Republicans. In other words, who do these folks represent?

Well I'm for Newt...but you do know that it's Santorum's turn...he' the new candidate of the hour....it's simply his time to step up and defend himself on the issues he needs to clarify. He better know how to do that since the Obama machine will of course nail him on those issues.

Santorum's from my state and they booted him for one of many reasons.....one of which he goes too far right for most folks on his social issues...maybe it was just how he comes across as the "Preacher-Man" and carried such a large degree of self-righteousness and arrogance in how he presented the issues....but he sure turned the majority completely off to him. ....and we're seeing that surface now in the primary as otheers take note.

I don't know about the rest of the folks on Free Republic who are wary of Santorum, but I am "carpet-bombing" in an attempt to get people to READ and COMPARE Santorum's and Newt's policy positions and proposals with an open mind.

I'm "working for" limited government in the U.S. I'm "working for" the side that seeks to weaken Daddy State Government "conservatives" like Santorum. I'm "working for" the TRUTH, which is that Santorum's voting record shows a guy who is socially conservative but otherwise, pretty well inclined to big government "for our own good."

The TRUTH is that many accusations against Newt, such as his sitting on the couch with Pelosi and supporting health care mandates, have false implications because Gingrich has fought VALIANTLY against cap-and-trade regulations, and he has stated unequivocally that on further reflection, he (along with pretty much everybody at the conservative Heritage Foundation, which once supported mandates) has concluded that they were wrong in thinking mandates would work. Newt has DEMONSTRATED that he is humble enough to admit mistakes and press on toward solution. Santorum, on the other hand, demonstrates ZERO such humility or vision. On the contrary, Santorum has demonstrated a disturbing tendency to lecture Americans on morality.

Gingrich has a thoughtful, detailed plan, including one that really should resonate with EVERYONE HERE: Enforce the Tenth Amendment by starting an orderly transfer of power and responsibility from the federal government back “to the states, respectively, or to the people,” as the Constitution requires. Over the next year, state and local officials and citizens will be asked to identify the areas which can be transferred back home. This bill will decisively return power and responsibility to the states and the citizens.

Unlike Santorum, with regard to Health Care, Gingrich has stated CLEARLY that mandates in anything he plans are off the table, as in having "no individual mandate or employer mandate of any kind."

Look where I could, I found no such assurance from Santorum, and Santorum is already CONFIRMED as being a guy who likes to use government to force people into doing things "for their own good."

Santorum NEEDS TO BE VETTED. In my opinion, what you're seeing are the actions of a lot of individuals, like me, who really want folks to stop and read the handwriting on the wall with regard to Santorum: he is a former Senator and big-government "compassionate" conservative whose political philosophy is very close to Romney's.

Gingrich, whom Santorum has described as his mentor back in the days of the Reagan Revolution, has about ten times the leglisative experience and record of success as Santorum, he has a plan that details exactly HOW he intends to reduce government and increase freedom and prosperity for Americans, and he is clearly the superior choice for 2012.

GODSPEED NEWT GINGRICH.

I’m not working for anyone, and may not have posted anything in the last 24 hours. But that’s pretty close to what I’ve been saying about Santorum for a least a few weeks.

I was big for Cain, and now think Newt is the right choice. He’s the only one of the three leaders who has shown any ability to go around the MSM. This is crucial.

Well, I think it’s a sudden realization that we have somehow let a mediocre candidate get the upper hand in the primary and a hope that Newt will rise from the ashes.

There is also regret that Michelle Bachmann shot herself in the foot and that Perry gave up way too soon.

I don’t think it’s anything more than that but if you have some conspiracy theory you want to believe in, go for it.

Just going by my own feelings, Santorum never appealed to me. He was my last resort before Romney. I was for Perry and then transferred with some trepidation to Newt and now it looks like we may be stuck with Santorum.

But I’m not pessimistic enough to think that Obama can beat him.

Anecdotal, but I talked to a youngish guy at church Tuesday and he admitted voting for Obama. He also admitted that it was because he is black, and I guess some guilt was involved. He also said it was a big mistake and he wouldn’t do it again.

So, if you multiply that by all the voters who are disappointed in Obama, I think Santorum can beat him.

I just wish he’d give up the creepy smile and the sweater vests and act more mature.
