A Facebook page appearing to belong to T.J. Lane, the suspected shooter at Chardon High School in Ohio, includes an essay describing a fantasy massacre that ends with the chilling words, “Die, all of you.”
Lane, suspected of shooting classmates at his school Monday morning, appears to have taken to his Facebook page on Dec. 30 to post a rant about a “mistreated” man who takes revenge on the “the vermin in the street.”
“He longed for only one thing, the world to bow at his feet,” the posting reads. “They too should feel his secret fear. The dismal drear.”
On Jan. 20, the Facebook user — with the name “Tj Lane” — claimed he wrote the post while at school, commenting underneath the post, “much obliged to all who ‘liked’ this. Wrote it myself in class one day.”
Although this particular “Tj Lane” doesn’t say on his Facebook profile where he is from, at least 38 of his Facebook friends self-identify as being from Chardon, Ohio — including at least six who attend Chardon High School.

———In the book, “Columbine,” I read how either Klebold or the other kid had written some very similar death-oriented, macabre stories to the point that the teacher was concerned. This kid writes his fantasy about people dying and kids “like” it on facebook.
It’s time for our kids to learn that when other people write these sorts of things, it MEANS something. It is NOT normal.-——
These days, it falls within normative behavior.
Depressing, violent, macabre, literature is assigned reading in government schools.
Take a look at the school library, town library “young adult” section, or B&N teen section. There’s little else.
It has its effect, as I know of very young children obsessed with this garbage.
In this case, it appears that the boy’s father has a history of violence.

This is all that junior high was, when I attended a govt school in a wealthy town, back in the 70s. Parents didn’t believe that this would happen “in our town.” Administrators didn’t talk about it. (Surprise!) And teachers looked the other way.
I was one of the kids who walked away, and kept his head down. I apologize. I still feel the shame for doing nothing, 35 years later.
I don’t necessarily have a problem with macabre literature. I was taught Poe and history and life itself is full of death. Children must confront its reality. However, when the culture is absorbed in it, that is NOT good.
Look at the two most widely read novels (series, actually) that kids have been hooked on in the last few years. Unlike Tarzan of the Apes, the Nancy Drew books, and such, our kids are fed nothing but witchcraft and sorcery via “Harry Potter” and now the violence from “The Hunger Games.”
We are to think on these things: whatever is lovely, pure, noble, good, etc.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I challenge parents to look through the fantasy aisle at B&N. Read the dust jackets.

Absolutely.
The pics I have seen of him reminds me of the Muzzy terrorists with their thousand mile stare of death.
I have known several kids like that over the years (and, like many of us, have studied this personality type out of fascination). And enabling parents only magnify the problem (Joren Van der Sloot comes to mind).
The question is "how do you prevent their eventual crime without robbing the merely weird among us of their freedom to be weird?"
I think most kids and adults know the answer...stay the h$ll away from them.
The merely weird find other math and science nerds to hang with (;-D)...the true psychopaths are shunned by all but a few stupid saps (some of whom often end up as victims).
a history of violence, death threats is a red flag. The merely weird long haired kid who is oddly imaginative doesn't go around being violent or threatening others. Plus look at their origins. a criminal family versus an odd off beat family is a clue.
