A public notice about your private history (Or Google will do bad things to you).

I don’t worry that some of my information can be easily accessed on the web. I think I’m typical of most people in my generation who have grown accustomed to taking privacy into their own hands. My rule of thumb is this: if it’s a free service on the internet, you’re probably the product. In many instances, that’s not a terrible trade off. Facebook, for example, uses my information to target ads to my profile, but I can think of worse violations of my privacy in exchange for an easy platform to share information with my friends.

Google is revising their privacy policy in March, though, and it doesn’t look up my alley (and it probably won’t be up yours). So don’t wait for some dopey Congressman to slap a large, sweeping law that will invade more of your personal liberties (think SOPA). Take matters into your own hands and enter a 21st century frame of mind, one filled with personal responsibility: How to Remove Your Google Search History Before Google’s New Privacy Policy Takes Effect (courtesy of the Electronic Frontier Foundation).

Likewise—I am not sure what they mean here. Is a Google account you have to sign up for, or does the mere fact of having used Google as a search engine mean that they have an account with your computer’s ID in it? If that is the case, can they reconstruct every search you have ever made with that computer?

While you’re in a government office on the taxpayers dime you have no privacy, nor should you. If you find those terms unacceptable find another job.

You’re on top of things! :)

I also changed my search engine to “Startpage.com”. It’s supposed to be more private than Google, Yahoo, etc.

Wasn't in there on the taxpayer's dime ~ this was USPS and it's financed out of postage and fees for services.

You people really need to get this straightened out ~ there's no need for any government employee's personal business to be available for public consumption.

Sure is good to be back HOME!

I did it...it was easy. I don’t know if it would make a difference
but it never hurts to be cautious! :)

When you're using equipment paid for by the taxpayer and you're on the clock every single move you make should be available for public consumption.

Government paid slugs need to get that little fact through their thick skulls. You work for us. We own your asses. If they don't like it, GTFO and find another line of work.

You ever stop to think how utterly stupid that is of you? What you are doing is going on record with language that will simply stimulate those government employees you hate to search for you and publish your stuff.

There's no reason you need to know more about any government employee than what you'd be able to find out about one of the judges who sits on the court that authorizes wiretaps.

In fact, you can't even find the home address of most federal judges.

BTW, I can find those addresses ~ it's actually pretty easy for most jurisdictions.

Tell 'em go ahead. I'm not saying anything here I wouldn't say to their faces. I've had 3 different government jobs and in every single one every move I made on the taxpayer clock was subject to public scrutiny one way or the other.

In fact, you can't even find the home address of most federal judges.

Wanna bet?

Try it. Maybe the site manager will let us post them as we find them.

Or, maybe not.

I have no doubt that would attract some attention nobody needs.

I do not have or use google.

wanna bet? Use your address bar to search for a word. Watch the lookup site it uses.

I think the concern is very warranted. Here is something else that raises further alarms on Google's behavior.

Well, I think the results were pretty predictable, if not what we might have wished.

This has been the craziest primary cycle! :)

Do not Track Plus (http://www.abine.com/faqs.php) which I found out about right here on FR a while ago, seems to be working very well.
