I thought it was commonly understood that only an original arabic Koran was to be considered an actual Koran. English or other translations are considered in the category of study aids, unless you happen to burn one of them, I suppose. I had an english version left on my door once, and the cover has the careful designation,

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE MESSAGE OF

THE QURAN

The Koran can be translated in other languages but the Arabic version must be there as well. If you had a copy that did not, that was a mistake or done by someone who is not muslim.

I guess my copy I got from the USAF just went up in value.
