I received a call today from the Santorum campaign. (I am in GA) The man asked me if Sen. Santorum could count on my vote tomorrow. I laughed and said, Sir you have called a household that is so Pro-Newt that I am a Precinct Captain. He then said, “While it is good that we support the past achievements of Speaker Gingrich, every vote is precious and why would you waste your’s on a symbolic vote.” !!!!!!!! I said excuse me, WASTE MY VOTE?! He said, “The race is obviously between Mitt and Rick.”
I then lit into him! (a southern saying, of course it is really pronounced more like “let” than “lit” :)) I told him that, in case he hasn’t noticed, Newt is polling so high in GA that he might just walk away with all 76 delegates! And, in case he hasn’t noticed, his guy is cratering in TN and OK while MY guy is surging (almost 15 points in 1 week) and since Rick didn’t field any delegates in TN, Gingrich will walk out of there with more delegates than him. OK will bring in delegates for Newt, too. And for that matter, why don’t you call me on March the 15th, AFTER Alabama and Mississippi vote! Then we can talk about wasted or symbolic votes!”

Yes, it's PLAIN to see. That's because Newt's a threat to the establishment. As some little GOP-e jerk said on Fox recently, Newt would change Washington too much. They're running scared.

From the beginning, this primary has been as much about promoting Romney as it's been about stopping Newt Gingrich!
Newt Gingrich was running away with the election NATIONALLY and in Iowa based on his purely positive, solutions based campaign, and he had to be stopped! The GOP-E and Romney were stunned!!
The vicious attack ads by Romney and Paul did their trick and Santorum was the beneficiary, although his ginormous ego led him to believe it was his hard work, not the attacks ads against Newt nor that pastor's last minute endorsement.
Mercifully, Gingrich rebounded one he got to South Carolina an actual red, Republican state, and he had the big mo, but Romney had the money and out came the vicious attack ads once again in Florida and unbelievably, Marco Rubio butted in to denounce one of Newt's ads! I will always think it was downhill from that point.
I view this like you: it's another "us against them", only the "them" includes a lot more people who should be for Newt, not his rivals.
I hope and pray we're not looking at another opportunity lost, because like Newt Gingrich has repeatedly said, this is the most important election since 1860 and neither Romney nor Santorum will do.

I read the article, and also watched the interview on fox News Sunday.
Newt Gingrich didn’t campaign in Michigan so that means that his voters didn’t like Santorum or Romney.
It’s also true that in Michigan, Santorum got democrat union votes, so that also means that not enough Republicans liked Santorum.
It’s also true that Romney got the majority of the Catholic vote in Michigan, NOT Santorum!
Santorum has a lot of problems of his own making, that have nothing to do with Newt Gingrich.
