We don’t have an overabundance of illegal types here. Of course, before Katrina, there were hardly any.

What will happen down the road, is that local business owners who have a gambling weakness, will lose it all at the casino. Part of the gambling package you never see, and rarely hear about, but it does happen.

I have seen it happen several times. I personally never set foot in those places. I want nothing from them except what they promised when they were voted to be legal. They have delivered on none of it but taxes. This casino business is a blight on the community. Some here love them... enough to supply them with a steady stream of income. Not me!

“I want nothing from them except what they promised when they were voted to be legal. “

Therein lies your problem: You wanted something you didn’t deserve. They are business, not your personal socialist provider. They have a right to conduct business every bit as much as you do without you placing additional demands on them that are not placed on yourself. This is supposed to be a free country, not a country of special interest groups.

You're right about before the storm but since Alabama passed their tough laws they are pouring over the state line. You should see our Walmart in Pascagoula now vet. Unreal.

No, I did not have a problem. I was in attendance at the two West Side Community Center meetings prior to the vote to legalize gaming. I asked for not one thing... they promised that they would pay for all of the expansion of infrastructure to handle their increased traffic... increase in waste water treatment... increases in the water purification systems etc. Roads and schools and community projects were promised in return for a yes vote. I voted against gaming because I knew that they were liars... and I knew that they would run local businesses out of business. They had $4.95 all you can eat buffets and freebies the first two years. As soon as they ran enough restaurants and motels out of business... prices started to climb. They have never delivered on any of their promises... but I never expected them to... I never asked for anything... and my prediction of what damage that have wrought on the lives in South Mississippi has come to pass.

No. I moved here in 2000 after my divorce since my parents had retired here. After Katrina, I headed to Texas to find work, met my 2nd wife and she was transferred here. I was raised in California & Florida until we moved to Iowa (my father’s birthplace) when I was 14. I entered the Army from Iowa and lived there most of my life.

We have the new Biloxi super Wal-mart opening next month a block from my residence. I’ll have to look for them.

I’m pretty much totally disabled, but I’m sending my step son. I’ll ask him.

The next one is on the 12th. Glad my G/F didn't go to yesterday's fair. They started lining up at 8 for a 12 o'clock fair and more than 2000 showed up. What a nightmare. They were still taking apps after 7 p.m. for a fair that ended at 6.

I’m so glad to see that Margaritaville is finally being built! It was just a skeleton for so long after Katrina, I was afraid it was going to be abandoned! Sounds like it will be a fun family attraction, not just a casino, which will be a great addition to tourism on the Coast.
