I went along with a friend to Niger when she wanted to help in a medical mission. I figured I’d be there for support, and while she was working in the hospital, I would just wander about. After a day or two she asked me if I could help in the operating room as a circulating nurse. Being an engineer with absolutely no knowledge or experience in the medical field, I asked her exactly how I would be able to help in an OR. Turns out the locals would walk out in the middle of surgeries several times a day to pray (plus they didn’t follow instructions well even with a translator). Thus, I was put to work in the OR the next day, doing whatever needed doing.
