Simple answer: Buy a Taser, and use it if confronted. A taser isn't going to help you much, if you're confronted by a gang of hostiles, intent on injuring, or even killing you.
You'd best be equipped with something that can stop multiple targets.

A taser isn't going to help you much, if you're confronted by a gang of hostiles, intent on injuring, or even killing you. You are correct. A taser or pepper spray is much less likely to deter a thug than a gun, as he figures if he attacks you, nothing too bad will happen to him.
