When my MIL died, Hubby and I paid for an autopsy because she had an artificial valve, and we wanted to know if its failure caused her death.

It cost $2000.

We found out it was her own valve's failing that killed her, and we asked them to send the heart valve company the information as well for their database because they did give us an extra ten years with her.

She didn't really have to die, but that is a very long story about an incompetent doctor, or perhaps a precursor-to-zer0care doctor. She was only 67.

The second autopsy usually find things that the ordinary corners miss.First, you are dealing with politicians who have an MD after their name. They also dealing with many other deceased people that hava also died. Your case is not getting their full attention. The problem with second autopsies its that you have to pay out of pocket for it.
