“no religious test”

Of course there is no legal religious test for office. We don’t have a law that says only Christians can hold office.

The questions is: do we want someone who professes a really strange religion as our Head of State? Sure, it may be legal, but is he or she the person we want as our representative?

There are ceremonial duties for that office.

Is the question of a person’s faith NEVER an issue?

What if the person were a Wiccan or a Scientologist?

Would we say, sorry you can’t criticize a person’s private faith. So what if they sacrifice puppies to Isis every full moon or believe they are the descendants of space aliens. They are great on tax policy.
