1—As a gun owner, I agree the various acts that outlawed some guns in the UK were wrong. Although I supported the 1988 act banning assault weapons. No real gun owner here owned one, and those that did were Rambo wannabes.
2—The British public it has to be said have never been gun owners. So the idea we were disarmed en masse is a misnomer. The biggest number of guns in the UK was 1.6m in 1996 out of 60m people. As bad as the laws were, THATS why the laws passed with little public argument.
3—It is a myth, or at least part-myth, that ww2 US weapons were destroyed. Info IS sketchy, but the evidence does suggest that most of the weapons, if not the vast majority, were simply melted down in 1940-41 for use in making munitions, tanks, planes etc.
