In the 80s, it meant ignoring all postings by an individual, which may reflect on the meaning you describe. ;)

I had programs that would strip out certain posters from mail-lists and newsgroups that I subscribed to, back in the 300 baud days.

Wow, a trip down memory lane.

I started with an ‘82 IBM PS2/50 (microchannel), w/ 2 40k floppy HD-drives (still have it in the basement), DOS2, and accessed CompuServe BBS w/ 9600 baud modem.
