I guarantee that when I showed up for work in a kitchen, my non-slip shoes were shined, my jacket was starched and ironed, and my hair was either 1/4 inch buzz cut or pulled back in a ponytail and I was wearing a hat.

What I see in the picture is unprofessional. That's why they aren't doing well.

Wanna be a pro? Start by looking like a pro. There might be a reason behind it.

And it's more than appearance. The chef's jacket is double breasted to protect from slosh burns. The short or controlled hair is to protect the customers. The shined shoes are actually easier to keep clean and germ free if you wax them.

It's not about looking cool. It's about practical and safety.

Hell, none of them has a ball-cap on and a ball cap is the last-resort hot-pad.
