Students at New York City’s Stuyvesant High are unhappy with a dress code that bans girls from wearing Daisy Dukes and tank tops to school along with other such inappropriate clothing.
To protest the restriction on their supposed right to wear as little as possible to school, the girls held a so-called “Slutty Wednesday” demonstration this week. They complained that Stuyvesant’s dress code is unfair, particularly to well-endowed girls.
Lucy Greider, a Stuyvesant freshman, told the New York Post she’s been sent to the principal’s office 10 times this school year for showing off too much cleavage, midriff or shoulder.
“Sometimes the teachers will call you out in the hallway,” she whined, adding “I like what I wear. I want to have my own style in school.”
Meanwhile, boy students, protesting in solidarity with underdressed female classmates like Greider, complained that school administrators assume they cannot control their raging hormones when they’re in the company of teen-aged babes wearing next to nothing.
But it’s not like Stuyvesant is telling Greider and other female students that they have dress like Amish girls.
Its dress code, put in place last year, states that shoulders, underwear, midriffs, and lower backs are not to be exposed. Shorts, dresses and skirts must extend below a student’s finger tips with their arms straight at their sides.
In practical terms, that means Stuyvesant girls can’t wear tank tops, halter tops or sports tops (the kind often seen in workout videos). Nor can they wear short shorts, micro-miniskirts or itty bitty dresses.
It also means that Stuyvesant boys can’t wear wife beaters and “sags” to class.
The girls have to make do with clothes that don’t make them look like teen-age street walkers. The boys have to do without gear that makes them look like they just got out of the joint.
If the upper-middle-class Stuyvesant girls just have to get their hoochie on, if the white-bread Stuyvesant boys feel they need to represent that they’re living the thug life, they all can do so after school each day, on weekends, on spring break and on summer vacay.
The pity is that the parents of the students who staged the New York City high school’s “Slutty Wednesday” protest gave it their tacit approval.
They are obviously unmindful of the Scripture that advises parents to train up a child in the way he (or she) should go. Otherwise their teens wouldn’t go to school each day wearing whatever – or not wearing whatever – their precious little hearts desire.
So, then, since so many of the Stuyvesant kids are apparently getting no adult guidance at home as to appropriate school attire, the responsibility has fallen to the New York City high school’s principal and teachers.
Those beleaguered educators are not the bad guys in the highly-publicized dispute over Stuyvesant’s student dress code. It’s the Stuyvesant parents who don’t care how slutty their kids look when they leave the house.
Well Slutty Wednesday is a change from dressing like a clown the rest of the week
I hope the spoiled brats learn about dress codes the hard way when they show at at an interview and do not get the job or admitted to a college because they dressed like sluts.
Put them all in uniforms.

Here in L.A. as I drive into work I play a little game.
“High School girl on her way to school, or streetwalker after a long night out.”
It is sometimes difficult to spot the difference - if there is one.
What sane person allows their 16 year old girl to dress like that?
And the SCHOOL needs to enforce a dress code? The SCHOOL???
I would ask “Where are the parents?” but I know it is more like “Where is the parent?” singular. And the answer would most likely not be one I would want to hear.

We weren’t even allowed to wear shorts to school back in the olden days of the 1980s.
Does not look slutty to me but those short shorts are inappropriate for school. That is normal dress for most girls.

Girls are allowed to look hot at that age. It does not mean a thing. Geez you would think we want them in Burka’s or something...
I propose the working women of America adopt “Slutty Wednesday” in their workplaces, to show solidarity with these brave students!

The principal should hold a press conference and announce that the dress code is going to be abolished.
After the thunderous applause recedes, then announce mandated uniforms for the girls and shirt/tie for boys.
Also, require the parents to purchase them.
The more ridiculous, the better.
There is a school where I grew up that had such a policy and after 6 months, all violence and dress problems vanished. Boys treated the girls with much more respect as well.
Stick ‘em in uniforms and dole out suspensions for breaking uniform code.
Stuy is one of the most difficult and most selective schools in the country. Public or Private. There is a special exam to get in and only the top 5% are accepted. The demographics are 50% Asian / 42% White / 4% Black / 4% Latino
From my experience, the best and the brightest tend to party the hardest. Most work very hard but many are very talented and don’t need to do much work. Especially when young. In my high school, nearly every single one of the top 10 ranked boys smoked pot pretty much every day. Sex wasn’t in short supply either.
Stuy has some of the highest rates of drug use of any High School. It also has some of the highest SAT scores and acceptances to Ivy League schools.
Sport coat and tie required at my Prep School in the Sixties! Of course I had one of those sport coats that changed colors depending on how the light hit it. And my ties were all hand-painted silk ties from the Forties. The one with purple fish scales and lightning bolts was my fav.
Hathaway Brown and Laurel girls all wore uniforms!
Honestly, they don’t look any different than the teens I see out during the summer here. That said, not appropriate for school, and the shorts could definitely come down longer. I went to a Catholic school and wore an uniform, and I think that’s the best thing. It’s much easier.
