Opposition to abortion is hardly the sole provenance of Christians.

Nat Hentoff is anti-abortion. His heritage is Jewish. He's an atheist. He's very left wing. He opposes abortion.

Passing laws against abortion is hardly imposing Christianity on radical Jewish communists who are simply trying to mind their own business. This Lisa Brown person wants to sell that notion, but I'm not buying.

I was watching this story for two days, and now, Politico has piped up spewing the same bs. The Dems are trying to act as though the prudes on the Republican side are offended by the word vagina, when it was her disgusting suggestion that went far, far over the line.

What distinguished ancient Judaism from the dominant cultures of the day, the Greeks and Romans, was their opposition to abortion, which the Greeks and Romans permitted (along with infanticide). The early Christians followed the Jewish tradition in this area.

Hippocrates forbade abortions, but that may have been mainly because they were very dangerous for the mother. Aristotle envisions situations where women would be forced to have abortions if they had too many children, like modern-day China.
