Interestingly enough, you will find that a lot of American cities had record flooding from 1888-1894 as well. We learned to build dikes, use low lying areas for parkland and recreational areas and build our bridges higher.

Then there's the summer of 1816 (Year Without a Summer), which sent scores of New Englanders fleeing to upstate New York and inspired the building of the Erie Canal: cheap labor + new farmlands opened needing cheap transportation to markets along the Hudson = economic benefits of a canal connecting Buffalo and Lake Erie to the Albany and the Hudson River. And all with money raised privately and at the state and local levels.

Before the socialists took power, every natural calamity turned into an economic opportunity.

Now, the socialists subsidize people to rebuild in flood plains and to stay put in pockets of urban economic poverty and even invite foreigners to join them.

We will forever have poverty in our midst because we continue to import an underclass who "only come here to do the jobs nobody else wants to do" just like their kids whom I hear are valedictorians and s#!t. The educated ones aren't here to take the jobs nobody wants. The excuse is ever changing.
