The anointed Texas political establishment contender, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, was leading in the GOP runoff race to capture the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. He had a whos who list of solid republican mainstream backers. Most state and national election experts had already inked Dewhurst into the senatorial win column.
Yet, in the conservative voter trenches of Texas, the real who s who that truly counted was the voters and a Tea Party movement that would not say die or give up. In their corner was the former Alaskan Governor named Sarah Im Not Afraid to Fight Palin. Palin endorsed Ted Cruz, and Ted Cruz won! Boy did he win.
But that is not the whole story. GOP insider politics in Texas had Dewhurst leading comfortably. Conversely one should note of course that he did NOT qualify his "excellent candidate" remark.
Taken all together, now that Perry's Lt. governor is out, it looks like Perry is now supporting Cruz.

Win or lose, he's covered, and thus exemplifying his usual priority.
BTW, note also how this matches Cheney's backhanded compliment about Palin. He was noting that although she did help McCain in the election, it doesn't mean he thought she was ready to step in as President should the need have arisen. Politicians habitually choose such words carefully.
“I’m just excited to know that the moderate Washington DC party girl, KBH will be replaced by a movement conservative.
Texas may finally have a great Conservative Senator. Next: primary Cornyn out of the Senate.”
Well said.
Bump.
