Marriage existed before any governments existed. Marriage was a religious practice for hundreds if not thousands of years, before governments got involved and made it a “civil” contract. The big issue was that government did not make a moniker distinction between religious marriage and civil unions, and society thus calls both, “marriage”.
That is why the issue is so polarizing. Traditionalists, see marriage from a religious viewpoint, while the gay community tries to portray it as a civil/legal issue.
From a religious point of view, trying to “force” approval of same sex marriage is the same as “forcing” Jews and Muslims to accept pork as being Kosher or Halal.

I agree with what you say. The progressives are engaged in a cultural revolution intent on destroying the American family. Mao used his to destroy the Chinese family and was largely successful.
