The city of Tuscumbia is reaching out to Chick-fil-A despite recent controversy.
The city wants the restaurant to build in Tuscumbia.
"We believe in living and let live and as long as you're not violating anybody's constitutional rights or laws we welcome any business to come in and do their kind of business," said Mayor Bill Shoemaker.
Monday night, the city council unanimously approved a resolution to formally invite Chick-fil-A to the city, despite controversy surrounding a comment made by the company's president regarding his stance on gay marriage.
"There's been a lot of people beleaguering him and his company, and what we think is everybody should have the opportunity to stay within the laws in the United States, state of Alabama and city of Tuscumbia and do your business," said Shoemaker. "Everybody has their rights and we're not trying to close down anybody's rights, so we'll welcome them here."
Shoemaker said the resolution is not about same sex marriage but a chance to show the city does not discriminate against businesses.
"In this resolution, we welcome Chick-fil-A and any other business to come to Tuscumbia and open their doors in Tuscumbia and they'll be treated fairly," said Shoemaker. "Any way we can get new business in Tuscumbia we'd be welcoming them."
Text of the “Gay Manifesto” here. Gays later claimed this was ‘satire’ after it was made public:

They’ve scrubbed it.
Hubbie and I went to CFA last night around 8:30. There were several people leaving as we went in and the place had several empty tables. I was just people watching while DH brought the food to the table. At a table near us were three people, two young homosexual men and a transvestite. They were enjoying the food just like everyone else there. Wonder if they didn’t hear that CFA was discriminating against them or that they knew the truth.
Or maybe they were just hungry. Many people that age, like my son (18) and stepson (23), pay little or no attention to the news. Many times I’ll bring up current events that are hot on here and in the blogosphere and get a blank stare from them.
Wonder if they’ll let me open an ammo or gun mfging biz?
