Don’t let some of the conversations scare you off from prepping - spending an extra $5 per weekly shopping trip will get you off on the right foot...

$5 buys you
*5 pounds of rice (get the 1# plastic bags and store them in old coffee cans or plastic bins)
*5 pounds of beans (ditto)
*2 cans of spam
*2 pounds of iodized salt and a large can of black pepper
*10 bottles of dried onion flakes (look in the 2-for-$1 section of the spices)

**Note - all of the above have virtually unlimited storage life without any particular special handling beyond “cool, dry, space” **

Making these simple, and inexpensive, preparation purchases will put you in the proper mindset, and soon you’ll be finding bargains on additional items to flesh out your stores for little cost....

That’s the way I started, many years ago, and it’s the way I continue to this day....

What do you purchase for heat for cooking? Sternos? Interested for a possible bad hurricane season.
