“You keep assuming that I think ‘conservatives reading conservative websites’ is a bad thing.”

Wrong. I never wrote that and don't think that. That is a false straw man argument.

In response to your comment #73, I wrote the following:

“You have patronizingly assumed that I judge Palin to have won her debate only because I am ‘a conservative who reads conservative websites.’”

You said that only such a person would think Palin won.

BTW, here is the AP write-up on MSNBC.com:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27001589/ns/politics-decision_08/t/expectations-low-palin-scores-debate/

"Expectations low, Palin scores in debate

"Contest with Biden allows her to get past embarrassing moments

"WASHINGTON — Joe Biden’s task was to attack. Sarah Palin’s was to attack, connect and stick to her folksy script.

"While both vice presidential candidates succeeded in their only debate of the campaign Thursday night, the stakes were much higher and the bar was much lower for Palin. So, in the contest of low expectations, Palin won.

"If nothing else, the first-term Alaska governor got past the raft of nonsensical and meandering answers in evening news interviews with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, the spoofs by Saturday Night Live and the mockery of late-night comics."

First, I agree that Palin won the debate. I'm a conservative; I read conservative websites. But, we're not discussing whether conservatives think she won. We're discussing how it was portrayed in the LSM.

So,I'm really surprised that you want to argue that the LSM saw Palin as the winner of that debate. That's entirely out of character for them. See all the following from MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, etc.

From MSNBC, on the Chris Matthews "Hardball" show 1.5 hours after the debate: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27008900/ns/msnbc-hardball_with_chris_matthews/t/hardball-chris-matthews-october/

Matthews:...So, who won? It depends on how you view Sarah Palin's brisk, rhetorical, often folks manner. Here are the early from two network polls. A CBS poll of uncommitted voters found that 46 percent thought Biden was the winner -- 21 percent gave the debate to Palin.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

MATTHEWS: Thirty-three percent called it a tie.

A CNN poll of debate watchers, not just uncommitted voters, also came out with Biden the winner -- 51 percent gave it to Biden, while 36 percent saw Palin as the winner.

From CNN: "Palin Gets Back on Track, but Biden wins Debate" http://articles.cnn.com/2008-10-03/politics/biden.palin.analysis_1_palin-and-biden-mccain-palin-delaware-senator?_s=PM:POLITICS

From CBS: "More Uncommitted Voters saw Biden as Winner" http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-502163_162-4497035-502163.html

ABC News: Biden Feeling Good Following Debate http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2008/10/biden-feeling-g/

From WordPress: Biden Wins, Palin Survies http://scotterb.wordpress.com/2008/10/03/biden-wins-palin-survives/

Finally, the CURRENT PORTRAYAL OF the history of that debate from a fairly LSM-leaning operation, wikipedia (which is what I am asserting....that the LSM widely portrayed Biden as winning the debate):

Several polls suggested that Biden had won the debate;[15][16] although, many observers were surprised by Palin's speaking abilities and knowledge of John McCain's policies.[17] CNN polls found Biden won 51 to 36.Ref It is widely agreed that both candidates accurately followed the "do no harm" guideline of vice-presidential debates. James Taylor, professor of political science at the University of San Francisco commented, "[Palin] resuscitated herself, but I'm not sure she did quite enough to do anything for John McCain." He added "Biden demonstrated he knows John McCain better than Sarah Palin does. She couldn't offer rebuttals during the depth of discussions. She read the Cliff Notes on McCain, and Biden has known John McCain."[18]

According to a poll of uncommitted voters conducted immediately after the debate by CBS News and the former Knowledge Network, 46% thought Senator Biden won the debate, 21% thought Governor Palin had won, and 33% thought it was a tie.[19] Fox News Channel held a poll regarding the performance of each candidate, with 51% of the votes in favor of Biden, and 39% in favor of Palin.[20] The Opinion Research Corporation's poll on the debate revealed that 51% of viewers felt Biden had won, while 36% were in favor of Palin. In the same poll, 87% said Biden was capable of fulfilling the duties of the vice presidency, while 42% said Palin is. Palin was considered more likable however, scoring 54% to Biden's 36%.[20] Mark Halperin of Time graded both candidates' performances a B.[21][22] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palin_Biden_debate#Parody
