Sorry to have bothered all of you or at all. I forgot my place Free Republic is not the place to find open conservative minds after all. Goodbye.
This really need not be so complicated an issue.
Just don’t excerpt your blog posts, and post away!
As you see, that’s kind of frowned upon. Why fight it?
Unless, of course, getting hits is your objective. If not, what seems to be the problem?
I have referred to it frequently to say that, for all the faults and stresses of modern life, we still are living longer and better than in any other age. The Luddites amongst us frequently decry the technology that sustains us, wishing for a distopia that they imagine to be an utopia.
Thank you for conveying this found gift!
You have been attacked by the same people that attacked Andrew Breitbart day after day until they turned him against Free Republic.
That was a major loss for Free Republic. You are in good company.
RIP Andrew Breitbart, The King of all Media.
When a person is new to a site and wants to be educatd nicely, they can identify themselves as new. Humblegunner's first post to you (at least) was nice - but rather than saying, "Gee, I'm sorry, I didn't know ... I'm new" you gave him attitude.
I am quite willing to obey the site rules
Glad to hear it.
Uhh.. wrong answer bud.
It's the EXCERPTING that is objectionable. Not the blog. Not the poster.
Hell, this blogger likes Heinlein. I freakin' LOVE Heinlein.
Could be I'd be one to enjoy this blog. Just not when we're used as a hit farm.
I gather you and I are not going to agree about what the Confederacy was about.
Sure, it was about states’ rights. Of course, the states’ rights at issue were what they saw as a threat to the “southern way of life,” and that way of life was explicitly based on slavery.
In fact, the particular issue that led to the schism of the Democrat Party and ensured the election of Lincoln was southern demand for a considerable expansion of federal power. A federal slave code for the territories, by which the Union would enforce and protect slavery in all the territories, even against the wishes of the inhabitants.
Prior to the war, secessionists were not in the least shy about the need to secede to protect slavery. Only after they lost did they suddenly discover that it wasn’t about slavery at all!
In fact, in the last two months of its life the CSA Congress spent a great deal of time debating the possibility of implementing (very) gradual emancipation, on the notion that this would allow them to get European support. Europeans not being stupid, they weren’t about to try to prop up this particular dead horse.
But what is interesting is how many if not most congressmen could not accept the idea of emancipation, even if it was the only way to gain their freedom. IOW, if it came down giving up slavery or being conquered, they preferred to be conquered.
But you’re welcome to believe anything you like about the period.
BTW, I have ancestors who fought for both sides, and at least one who personally fought for both sides.
However, I really had no intention of hijacking the thread, just expressing the impact a couple of books have had on my life.
He’s gone, good job.
Just another sleazy blog pimp, no biggie.
I loved live free or die and the rest of that series and The prince Roger series is another one of my favorites as is the looking glass books. I couldn’t really get into the Aldenata series.
You cover blogs with gas and set them on fire.
Seems to be your thing.
Soooo, you are and environmental wacko huh?
I never called him sleazy or a blogpimp.
I simply objected to his using FR to get hits, and tried to educate him.
Why this should bother you I can't imagine.
Homeboy shows up today with an excerpt leading to his blog, and he needs defending?
Contrary to Jim's wishes? Contrary to the majority opinion?
Really?
This unknown blogger should be defended for his excerpting
when he said his own self that he wanted hits on his blog?
Sorry, I dislike being used.
Now.
I'm going out back to club a few seals.
I never called him sleazy or a blogpimp.
I simply objected to his using FR to get hits, and tried to educate him.
To which he responded with attitude and then whining - upon which I called him a sleazy blog pimp. (If I'd realized at the time he was a clueless whining n00b I'd have called him that instead.)
Cool!
I rode out to Bodega Bay the other day.
Wore my leather jacket with red paint all over it...heh
Push the choke in and take off!
I didn’t say you did.
A few blog hating FreeperBeaters are a majority?
LOL
A poll would be interesting.
Your coming up with a cute name is fun, but inaccurate.
It's the excerpting what is getting beat on. If the "FReepers"
(doubt they qualify) knock off the excerpting, they won't get beat on.
Easy-peasy, lemon-cheesy.
Hey, you still on that bus tour?
We have a shoot coming up in 40 days or so.
I do not see what we disagree on
The war WAS about states rights, but the issue of the day was Slavery
The issue today might be forcing states to buy health insurance
