Read Farnhams Freehold when quite young, and it’s stuck with me for closing on five decades now. Can’t say that about many books.
Also “Citizen of the Galaxy,” which convinced me I really, really didn’t like slavery. Which has led me into some very interesting discussions with Freepers who seem to think writing apologetics for the Confederacy is appropriate for American conservatives.
The confederacy was NOT about Slavery as much as it was about State’s Rights.
I wish it was fought over a different reason- Slavery being bad and all that.
But imagine if the Southern States wanted to secede from the Union for a different reason, like being forced to buy health care they didn’t want...
And why do you FORCE a state to stay in The Union if they don’t want to? What is so precious about preserving “The Union”
