“Can somebody explain why these rule changes are so important?”
The establishment is setting the table for the next election. They’re creating a system where the nomination, political agenda, and platform building process will be completely and entirely under the control of a small number of party insiders - thus eliminating the influence of movements like the Tea Party. We can vote and march all day long, but at the end of the day the establishment types will pick the winners and set the political agenda with these changes.
That is counting a lot of chickens before they hatch. We aren’t going to win. Stick a fork in it. Obastard is staying.

So ultimately we really do not have free elections. This dog and pony show is old and completely predictable. It’s time to disenfrancise the death loving elite. They are ultimately the minority on the right.
