First, please cite where I said, “Blacks will riot and pillage when their benefits stop.”

That is the entire thesis of you article, premised on that single event.

Then you should have no trouble copying and pasting where I actually SAID that.

Back up your charges of racism in my essay, with direct quotes, or if you cannot, you are admitting here that you are a damn liar.

A brilliant example of dialectical materialism. You have successfully described good as evil.

No, I have noted a lie to benefit rather than harm, is still a lie.

We do what we can. Our biggest threat is a hurricane so that is how we are designing it. It will be very helpful when the next Ike comes roaring through.

It is better than letting people die from lack of water.

Third, it is vital to understand the nature of racism. It is the expression of false categorical imperatives such as that the termination of benefits will cause the gimme generation to riot in the streets.

So you're going to describe the "nature" of racism by restating your position?

Grow up. "You don't understand" is the last redoubt of the petulant teen that can't secure agreement from adults.

Honestly, I'm beginning to think you are nothing but a SPLC sleeper provocateur. I find it hard to believe you could have such a command of terminology while being of such sophomoric sensibilites.

Perhaps the mods should review your history.

“your thesis does not stand the test of human decency.”

Yours doesn’t stand the test of history.

Where to begin.

At my first question, then answer each in order.

You are NOT going to get off this thread with rhetorical "wand waving."

Count on it.

Oh, I'm not criticizing having backups, reserves, and contingency plans. I'm an engineer, and so am a big fan of having a Plan B,C,...Z. I'm just wary of blanket statements like "we will have running water. Period".

When the disaster arrives, is when we find out what we've overlooked.

You don’t remember the LA Riots, do you? One guy got hit and they burned the city down.

Where to begin. Before government benefit programs there was a vast network of religious and secular helping agencies that dealt directly with poverty and need. These have largely been supplanted by government mandated programs creating a diminishing of caring for and about those in need.

The one size fits all notion of dealing with human deprivation has reduced our ability to respond appropriately to individuals in crisis. We now keep them in perpetual crisis by providing a modicum but not a sufficiency of help to overcome their crisis. This is the nature of oppression, to maintain the conditions that create suffering.

so, you believe that the younger, 3-4th generation of welfare expectations are going to suddenly be trumped by a show of humanitarianism from a guy like you ???

go back and watch that LA riot vid, and listen to those firefighters recall being shot up, by people whose bellies were full, for the sheer meanness of it...

tell it to reginald denny...

make no mistake, a few 'bad apples' in any demographic, dont implicate the whole, but the God fearing folks, who seek to better themselves by hard work and peseverence, will be the first to starve, because the thugs will seize the opportunity to get their food and goodies at best, up to and including 'payback' for all their perceived injuries that have been indoctrinated to then from birth...

that small percentage of hungry hate will spread to others who are hungry, in this scenario...just as it did over the rodney king verdict, which in reality didnt personally affect these thugs in the least...

tell ya what, put on a nice suit and some bling, and go 'downtown' at dark-thirty and report back in the morning if ya can still breath...

even better example, I worked with a black guy awhile back, and we were doing a job down in the hood, and he even stated that he wouldnt go into that hood after dark, because even tho he shared the pigment, he didnt belong and was fair game for violence...

now, dont forget to call me a racist when you blindly squeal that the history of man and mobs is irrelevent in todays compassionate culture of oprah...

I have mixed feelings about the Red Cross.

Mine aren't mixed, but they aren't good, and I'll leave it at that.

Excellence in disasters = The Salvation Army

I agree 100%.

You’re speaking of “weaning”, initiated and guided by people who care. That is a laudable goal with hope for the future. Community can, with time, adapt.

Matt is speaking of “cold turkey”, inflicted and enforced by impersonal circumstances. People don’t take sudden starvation well. The majority missing 9 meals in a row is a sure path to civil war.

You’re just addressing a good idea in the wrong context. Start another thread and discuss it there. This one is about “EBT cards shut down overnight”, not “persuade the government to wean the able off welfare”, each topic having a very different outcome.

How much time?

Certainly not less than a generation.

Meanwhile, those cut from the government teat would be throwing spoiled-brat temper tantrums that would make the Rodney King riots look like a disagreement between two Buddhist monks.

I’m not sure I believe this guy is on the level. If he is, then he is the worst sort of cowardly quisling.

The last time I saw his sort in print, it was a ringing condemnation in one of those free newspapers of local law enforcement for not having mechanisms in place to prevent the forcible rape, witnessed by the writer himself, of a female black student by a group of male black students at “Black Spring Break.”

Of course, all his rhetorical gesticulating was cover for the fact the cowardly bastard wouldn’t call the cops himself, let alone try to defend the girl.

either way, the argument is apples/oranges and simply a waste of bandwidth regarding the original post by Matt...

'racist' doesnt phase me these days, especially when the proof of mob violence is on video for posterity...color doesnt matter as much as the basic instincts of man to fill the belly...or the worst case of selfishly seeking to satisfy whatever other 'hunger' is being idolized at the momnent...

every demographic has *something* thatll cause a mob mentality and spark a violent reaction...those who are willing to do said violence will dominate those who believe in appeasment...simply the nature of fallen man...

Matt's essay is racist at its core. It characterizes blacks as rats in a cage, ready to eat their own when the food stops.

No. It isn't just blacks, but any urban poor with a chip on their shoulder. "Minority" takes in more than just blacks. And anyone who hasn't thought it through might realize that cities are a cage, that the supplies won't last long, and yes, things could well reach the point where people there are ready to eat someone, whether their own or someone else's.

This is the stock and trade of the democrat party. Theirs is the culture of fear that uses black violence to sell welfare.

Welfare isn't just a 'black' thing. There are whites, hispanics, and American Indians on welfare, too.

Note that Matt said "Minority" (Women are a "minority"), and frankly, there is historical precedent for minorities rioting when perturbed or starving.

I'll grant that much of that has been incited for political purposes often not beneficial to the community, and on occasion, for the purpose of a relatively small contingent of looters.

Please keep in mind that I regard three basic types of people: good folks, a$$hole$, and those I don't know well enough to tell, and they come in all sizes, shapes, and colors.

With that in mind, though, it is prudent to not ignore the amount of race-baiting carried on by the Media --especially during this administration, from the 'beer summit' to Trayvon, and in between.

Whether the sentiments are shared by a majority of blacks is moot, the outside perception of the black community's sentiment is what will drive responses to any violence--and it is almost inevitable that some contingent like the flash mobs will be the spark in the powder magazine. (That goes for any other group which can be recognized or differentiated at a distance, and to that extent, racial characteristics are a generally recognizable parameter.)

Then generalizations will occur, and whether either side wants a war, defusing one will be far harder than starting one.

Welfare is the greatest single enemy of the black culture. It denies the common humanity if its recipients. It denigrates and slanders. It perpetuates itself and demands absolute obedience to its benefactors.

I could not agree more. Under the guise of 'help' it has become a damnable obsession of the do-gooders to keep people on welfare. It *IS* a trap, but not just for blacks--for anyone who doesn't get out fast.

I pray for the day when all government welfare ends. That will be a day of rejoicing, not a day of murder and mayhem.

In some quarters, there will be rejoicing. Others, I believe will turn their indignant energies toward violence, as they have been so carefully programmed by the Communists to do. While not a racially limited thing, the "The world owes me, the rich man held me down", etc. mentality has been drummed into a couple of generations of heads out there, and by no means is that limited to the minority population. If they start violence, they will be the cannon fodder of the Marxist movement's attempts to destroy this Republic, and by their actions, others will be drawn into the conflict whether they want to or not.
