In my day the military was famous for this type of coercion. It was made quite clear that the outfit had to have 100 percent participation and that holdouts were going to be sorry.
Did they try to put a monthly donation vampire on your paycheck? They did me, but I had proof of no bank account since I didn’t direct deposit.
LOL ! That reminds me of a manager I had in my last company. He demanded we give to United Way and he even mentioned his bonus depended on it. He was a real jerk to me from day one when he took over as manager. I got called into his office and he demanded I give money to them and when I said no, he got livid. I walked out of his office and mentioned HR to him. That kind of shut him up.
> sounds like managers I had that tried to force me to pay into The United Way(where about 90% of the funds goes to maintain the offices and cushy lifestyle of the heads of this false charity),
Oh I remember that. When I worked at AT&T fresh out of college 25 years ago, I got tagged to be my group’s UW “coordinator” one year. It was made clear that our performance in UW contributions would enter into my salary appraisal at the end of the fiscal year...not a big part, but still a part nevertheless. So I went through the motions, got around 80% participation (NOT including myself!), and never heard anything about it again.
