If you could prove to me that an arsonist was born with the desire to set fires - I still wouldn't want them free to roam the streets; I would want them locked up for their crimes.
We are all born with certain inborn inclinations; as just one example - men are much more likely to commit violent crimes. Some people are born without a discernible conscience (sociopaths). They should still pay for their crimes. Nothing would embolden a sociopath more than being told that because ‘they cannot help it’ they face reduced or no punishment.
They no more want to be "cured" than do homosexuals.
HOMOSEXUAL, because there's nothing GAY about it.
For secular humanists, if someone has a alternative lifestyle that has been scientifically proven that it was a biologically determined lifestyle from birth, that means that it is a legitimate lifestyle. It should not be considered evil, and one should be allowed to pursue it as they see fit,in the name of self-actualization. For them, first it was homosexuality, now pedophilia. Next is incest. This has been their plan for decades.
I find myself increasingly sympathetic toward that solution.
We either treat it like a disease and find a cure, or we treat it like a psychological disorder and we use it to discriminate in matters of parenting, employment, and security.
I’m talking about BOTH homosexuality AND pedophilia. If its a disease, let’s put on a telethon and look for a cure. If it isn’t - if they idea that pedophilia is somehow normal, simply because the case for homosexuality and pedophilia are the exact same (I can’t help it), then the rest of us should be allowed to take evasive action from people with those disorders.
I say that because as soon as you split procreation away from sex, you've shriveled its meaning. It's small. It reduces the meaning of sex to "I wanna." And if "I wanna" is the meaning, the object of "I wanna" can be, basically, anything you want.
“Both homosexuality and pedophilia are SINS, period!”
That’s been established. The condition whereupon a man gazes upon a child with lust isn’t something that happens naturally. There are a great many homosexuals that want very much not to be, for example.
There is a causation for that type of reaction. For the spiritual, partial possession may be the cause.
For the secular, the fact that they are ‘sins’ has no relevance. The fact that they cost society money, breach the peace, and pose public health risks are relevant enough to investigate scientifically. That they do not is purely political.
You’re right that those in the secular world do not give a rip that the “cause” is sin, grown from the heart. It’s too bad for them.
Then there's that.
They used to think leprosy was caused by sin too. After a while, we studied it, then we cured it.
That was a different time though.
You’re not actually defending child rapists, are you?
The last I checked, a skin disease does not lead to people acting on their impulse to sin, as in raping children.
I once watched a client of mine walk out of her appartment toward me naked, swearing she had defused six bombs in her apartment placed there by demons coming from the clock.
To stop the fire that could have started from the bombs, she flooded her bathroom.
After she was restrained and taken to a hospital, I retrieved some of her clothes and effects and brought them to her. She had become paranoid-schizophrenic. Fortunately, they can treat that with meds, and she has been able to retain her job. Those meds wouldn’t exist without research.
Now, were her issues moral, or were they medical?
Since there is exactly dick for research on the neurochemical causes of either pedophilia or homosexuality, we’re not going to be able to find out for a while.
See, on the right, its a sin and on the left its a choice and it is normal. Here in rational world, if you choose to be a pedophile because you’ve tried everything else, THAT’s a sin. If you’d rather cut your own dick off than hurt a child, you might have a neuromedical issue (that’s happened too - self castration and penile mutilation or dismemberment).
You think there’s some room between sin and choice for some sort of medical research to determine whether there’s something we can do for those afflicted, INNOCENT, and desirous of care?
I’d reserve judgement, or you just might smell your own genitals roasting over some hot coals someday. Satan loves nothing more than a sanctimonious, judgemental asshat driving the truly agnostic away from Christ. Another saved person confusing salvation for perfection and the right to sit in judgement.
You are as screwed up now as the day before you were saved - the only difference between now and then is that you’re forgiven.
Christ even came for the pedophiles, should they seek Him. In any case you’re not in possession of a tenth of the facts about any of His flawed creations to comment on their state of grace.
Demon possession is grossly under-diagnosed nowadays.
Whose “state of grace” am I commenting on? My column addresses the lunacy of the Gawker piece.
Sin is sin, and if you want to study the “causes” of sin, go right ahead and knock yourself out. You will never find the answers in a CT scan.
