But the Pentagon, i.e.”the taxpayer” is buying a whole bunch of them. Why not? No one else is.

Leaf batteries degrade in the severe heat, but power also drains too quickly when drivers want to keep warm in winter or need to drive up-and-down hills.

Not to mention running the air conditioner.

No, but maybe technology and engineering can. The way to find out is to get the gummint the hell out of the battery business and let risk-takers try to figure it out.

The battery people are counting on the money to lead to a breakthrough. They thought they would have had one by now.

The electric car people have a parallel thought that there is going to be someone somewhere who has the “ahah” moment that solves the problems of the battery leading to a practical car.
