What Islam Means by “Slander”

From the point of view of Muslims, one of Geert Wilders’ many crimes has been to slander Islam.

But what does Islam mean by “slander”? The word does not carry the same connotations to a Muslim that it does to a European or an American.

One of the most widely respected manuals of Islamic jurisprudence is Reliance of the Traveller, or ‘Umdat al-Salik, by Ahmad ibn Naqib Al-Misri. It represents the Shafiite school — one of the four major schools of Islamic law — and was written in the 14th century.

Here’s what al-Misri has to say about slander (quoting the al-Azhar approved official English translation by Nuh Ha Mim Keller):

r2.0 Slander (Ghiba)

r2.1 (Nawawi:) Slander and talebearing are two of the ugliest and most frequently met with qualities among men, few people being safe from them. I have begun with them because of the widespread need to warn people of them.

Slander

r2.2 Slander (ghiba) means to mention anything concerning a person that he would dislike…

So “slander” does not have to be untrue, or damaging, or financially harmful. It simply has to be disliked by the person on the receiving end.

In other words, it offends the person it refers to.

Sound familiar?

r2.3 As for talebearing (namima), it consists of quoting someone’s words to another in a way that worsens relations between them.

The Evidence That Slander and Talebearing Are Unlawful

r2.4 The above define slander and talebearing. As for the ruling on them, it is that they are unlawful, by the consensus (def:b7) of Muslims…

The Two-Faced

The Prophet (Sallallahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) is reported to have said: "You will find that the worst of Allah's slave on the Day of Resurrection is the two-faced person. He comes to some people with one face and to others with another face." [al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Abu Hurairah (Radhiallahu `Anhu) narrated that Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: "You will find people like metals (in their qualities). The best of them during the days of Jahiliyyah are the best when they enter Islam if they understand Islam. The worst people are the ones who do not accept Islam. You will find the worst among people the two-faced person. He comes to some people with one face and to others with another face. [al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Notice that slanderers are also slaves.....

“You will find that the worst of Allah’s slave on the Day of Resurrection is the two-faced person.”

0bama is speaking to the Arab street. He is saying that not being Muslim should be illegal. He has given his go ahead for whatever means necessary to achieve this end.

So, telling the truth about Islam is slander because the Muslims don’t want to hear it.

Some day they will be forced to face the truth ( “there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth”).

Free will versus NO will. This is considered slander.

What we learn from this: “ghiba” is NOT slander. The concepts are decidedly different.

As one poster indicated “hearing something one doesn’t like” is NOT slander. It is malicious to misrepresent the truth, however disliked, as slander. To defame a speaker for uttering the truth is in fact SLANDEROUS (unless, if it is in writing, it is libelous).

But “ghiba” is slander and by definition of shari’a also illegal because it is slander.

0bama got another two-fer today, or a three-fer. Discussing the outlawing of slander and slavery (related), at the same time that the Arab street hears that slanderers (infidels) and slaves (non-Muslims) should be freed.

Jihad ramped up in 3-2-1....

Finally we get that straight! By that definition, the koranimals can not only cancel the U.S. Bill of Rights altogether, but they seriously believe that voting at the U.N. can accomplish the neutralization of the entire United States system of government.

These clowns better get used to hearing things they don't like.

Reality sucks!

Sorry, Skippy. The Truth can NEVER be libelous, by definition.

Assuming you are not of the koranimal alternate universe.

My point exactly. The "koranimals" and the left destroy the meaning of words. Orwell warned of this "Newspeak."
