There is a lot of truth in the "my team" analogy. I thought that way for many years. It's like your team might have hired a coach with a screwy system, but it was still your team. I doubt many Democrats can give a cogent reason for why they are Dems. Like some of my friends. Republicans were all rich and greedy to my friends. My friends had more money than me. I guess I should have hated them.

My strong Catholic parents were another example. They grew up under FDR and remained loyal to the party into their eighties. No amount of pro-abortion actions by Dems could sway them. But strangely, now that he's approaching 93, my father has indicated he's an independent. Which I guess is progress of a sort.

” I had no idea that anyone would ever think that a 35 year old female virgin, cattle market expert, and gun enthusiast might be a lesbian.” - Ann Barnhardt

These two. Real life SNL characters.

However, I can’t help but love her koran with the bacon bookmarks!

That is interesting, you should make an effort to look for an explanation. If you find out anything interesting, tell us about it.

There is a bizarre, sophomoric "rah-rah yay team" dynamic in our culture whereby if the guy presented as being on "Team D" with the donkey mascot holds a position the "Team R" fans boo, while if the guy presented as being on "Team R" with the elephant mascot does exactly the same thing, the "Team R" people cheer.

My theory is that this is all a byproduct of the sports culture.

Poor boobs. Lets look throughout American and world history and see what we can see--yep, LOTS of inter-party rivalry everywhere you look. Why those Bosheviks and Mensheviks must have been transferring their sports culture rivalry into politics! And, hey, what about those Hutus and Tutsis? And the Nazis and Jews (and many other target groups in Germany including homosexuals, the elderly, Gypsies, and the retarded). There sure was a WHOLE lot of sports rivalry EVERYWHERE!!!

Alan, please, admit it. You got played by Borat! This offering of political analysis is cut from the same cloth.
