As Twitchy reported, the Jersey Shore started getting battered by Hurricane Sandy well before the destructive storm hit land. The aftermath of the storm has resulted in utter devastation and heartbreak.

Rasmussen reports that they will have limited data available. They are based in Asbury Park, N.J.

Like in Seaside Heights, N.J., the force of Hurricane Sandy has totally wiped blocks of the boardwalk away.

Governor Christie expressed his heartache after surveying the damage.

Heading by helicopter to the Jersey Shore to assess the damage. From early reports, it appears to be unthinkable. #Sandy

Friend from Rumson sent me a video she made from across the river since no one is being allowed in town. The amount of damage in mind-boggling. There's nothing left on the ocean side that's identifiable. Apparently, there's nothing left of Donovan's Reef. I spent a lot of nights out on the deck there drinking beer and playing darts. It's clear from the video that most of the old town will have to be razed. Who knows if and when the beach clubs will be back.

I lived across from Driftwood Beach Club after high school and got to know the Sea Bright bar seen well. Moved down to Spring Lake and Belmar later for a change of pace. CNN was reporting from Belmar tonight. Couldn't believe what they were showing. I'm sick about it.

I think one of those used to be our cabana. :^) Surfrider had the best break in Sea Bright, and if you didn't want to go to North End, this was where you surfed. Wish I could remember the rest of the clubs that were there back then. I think many of them were gone before the storm. I'll bet the water is a lot cleaner today then it was back then.

It's amazing that the structure made it all the way to 36. Dear Lord, that must have been one massive tidal surge.
