And now I hear dat de unions are turning away volunteers from non union states.
Gotta play the game doncha know?
Haven’t they figured out that’s his one talent? Looking presidential? That calm and measured demeanor?
It’s an empty shell.
Oh, all right. He wears a suit MUCH better than Chris Christie, or even a windbreaker.
Two talents.
Hang in there. Romney is on the way. I was going to donate to the Red Cross but maybe I’ll donate to some fellow FReeper directly instead.
I’m in SoCal here. Just stunned at the damage in NY and NJ and CT. I would be ranting too knowing the dire needs of the people and Bloomberg is going ahead with the marathon!!??? Diesal generators that could be put to better use than heat tents for some runners!!??? Stay safe, you all are in my prayers. We are Americans!!! We demand better than this from our elected officials.
I’m so sorry you are in the middle of this mess. I hope you get electric soon. Do you have food and water?
I’m praying for you guys.
Actually, you sound pretty reasonable for someone in your position.
Stay safe and warm.
Need to get All the people in Staton Island to walk to the Marathon and ask for their water and power bars !!
Prayers for you, Glock. I know it is very difficult to be trapped in a house with all that mess.. no lights, worry, etc.. If it is any consolation (and I know it is of very little) but good thoughts your way. Stay strong.
As for the Marathon, I hope those asshole runners get pissed on as they jog through Brooklyn and Queens.
Just derove past a two mile long gas line on Northern Blvd. that stretched for two miles from Great Neck to CIP.

Poor Obama, stumping for votes and overseeing the Sandy disaster must be playing hell with his golfing schedule.
Okay, I admit I’m being silly....Sandy will have no impact on his golfing schedule.
“I’m sitting in the dark, listening to the radio by flashlight, scavenging for gas in order to get to work”
Welcome to the world of southern ice storms and hurricanes. A five days to a week without power is not uncommon down here.
Hang in there.
hoping and praying you have power soon (I cannot get into NYC from NJ by train yet); as soon as we have power back, what will be your most urgent needs?
I feel your pain brother. . .
Does everyone in Manhattan have tap water? How about toilet flushing?
We sit in the middle of gasoline production in Houston and Texas City (Texas City is even closer to Galveston). All those facilities shut down. The gasoline in their storage facilities cannot be delivered to gas stations. And, if they could, the gas station has no power to pump the gas.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS: WHEN THERE IS NO POWER YOU WILL NOT HAVE GASOLINE OR FOOD OR WATER (AND EVENTUALLY NO SEWER WORKING).
It doesn't matter who is president or who runs FEMA or The
Red Cross or anything else - WITH NO POWER, NOTHING HAPPENS.
If you haven't made preps to create your own personal functioning world, you won't have a functioning world because the world outside you door has collapsed.
After Ike, there was no power from Galveston north for hundreds of miles - that is what happens and we knew it would happen. It took weeks for all that to be fixed. It has been FIVE days for the northeast - that is just the beginning. If people are irate they will just have to stay that way.
Yes, when it happens here, there are mile long lines wanting gas when power comes back to some small area. Power comes back when it comes back with crews working constantly.
Maybe the northeast will never go through this again, but if one comes again, with Romney sitting in the White House, there still won't be any power or gas for days and houses will be flooded and destroyed and people will die, just like here every time it happens.
