Very interesting. The other narrative that I heard was that Iran/Russia arranged the trap because of their hatred of US efforts to bring down Assad and Syria. each of these narratives would be somewhat exclusive of the other, though.

Could you please explain in detail the sources for your article? Is it from one overall web site, or many?

I read in the Canada Free Press that their reporters had contacts in the area that claimed the whole event was a response from Russia for the American attempt to create a false flag WMD chemical attack in Syria. The attempt was intended to create a precedent for UN intervention and eventual overthrow of Assad. The article mentioned that Russian sat photos caught the transaction in the Turkish port. The Russians instructed Iran to hire three teams to attack the Benghazi mission. (Excerpt follows)

It is reasonable to suspect that these activities were more dire than just your average “gun running” operation. Since the overthrow of Qaddafi, it is estimated that upwards of 40 million tons of weapons and arms were shipped out of Libya to Syria. But it was also known inside intelligence circles that Qaddafi possessed chemical weapons in addition to numerous surface-to-air missiles. Could it be that Russia obtained unmistakable surveillance footage of the anti-Assad “rebels” being shown how to load chemical payloads onto missiles inside Turkey near the border of Syria? Weapons, of course, that were shipped from Libya by the CIA in conjunction with various Muslim Brotherhood rebel groups. If so, such weapons could be used as a “false flag” type of operation—one that would be implemented to “set-up” Assad by making it appear that he was using these weapons on forces dedicated to his overthrow.

The blowback by the international community would be swift and punishing, and the entirety of the civilized world would be demanding his overthrow. NATO would then be used to expedite his ouster, and Russia’s moral position within the international community would be weakened. Was the meeting held to show Stevens that the operation was compromised and that they had to stop?

The cooperation between an AQ affiliate and Turkey is a bit disconcerting, as the US was supposedly supporting Muslim Brotherhood operations in Syria via Turkey where the MB operates as an AQ rival. One hypothesis that explains it is that Putin put his foot down about the operation in Benghazi as a "red line in the sand," Zero blinked, and the Turks were allowed to deliver the "We were caught, you're dead now, sorry," message to Stevens before AQ did the deed.

There were scads of links in the article. Did you avail yourself of them?

Since the overthrow of Qaddafi, it is estimated that upwards of 40 million tons of weapons and arms were shipped out of Libya to Syria.

If that 40 million tons of weapons were all MANPADs that would be 2 billion MANPADs. Only a half million have ever been made worldwide.

Interesting angles- both you and the author. My theory is that the attack was "a drug deal gone bad". Steven and his "security" team (which we now know are CIA operatives) were collecting arms and SA from Libyan miltias with the promise they would go to "brother rebels" in Syria. The elements in both countries were Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Qaeda affiliates. Turkey is aware of the operation and is on board, acting as the go between.

The Russians find out about the operation and have evidence of SA in rebel hand, satellite and other intel. Russia threatens to expose the operation unless the US ceased and decease. Imagine- Obama caught supplying a sworn enemy of the US.

At this point the US backs out of the arrangement, or as the author suggests, promises the arms now to the Syrian Free Army. Either way, the Libyans know they have been had and seek revenge and/or re-secured arms that are in or believe to be at the compound. In a last ditch effort, Akin (Turkish Consul General), gets involved to stop the attack. He is the neutral "Godfather" trying to get the warring gangs to make peace. He asks Steven to reconsider the decision at which point a deal can not be made. Akin Kisses Steven on the forehead (figuratively speaking), and leaves the compound in his car. He approaches the roadblock, rolls down his window, shakes his head no, the road block opens and he leave the scene. Shortly after, the attack begins.

Probably. To put some more perspective on that figure; if all 40 million tons was comprised of Abrams tanks that would be 591,716 Abrams tanks.

Is a website....with a number of articles ....I found this ONE very interesting:

The Istanbul Control Room

***************************************EXCERPT*************************************

Substantial swaths of northern Syria are now “free” zone. Especially in the province of Idlib.

I will focus on the “free” zone, especially the territory that is still called ‘Idlib.’

But who’s on the ground withstooding the Assad regime army’s, and even repelling it?

Where do the guns come from? Who buys them?

Journalists and academics categorize the fighters by naming an organization, and by assuming that in a hot war the old boundaries still stand. They don’t. It moves and changes. That’s why we need a dynamic way of informing the data.

The article at CFP by author Doug Hagmann with embedded links to three earlier articles with regard to the Russian connection to the Benghazi hit.....

Articles by Mr. Hagmann are NOT welcome on FreeRepublic ....no aware of the precise reason.

Maybe too much speculation as you will see when reading the totality of his articles.

Some rather interesting analysis to be considered.
As for the quote of some forty million tons of weapons being transferred out of Libya. Even forty tons of the type weapon transfers would seem rather dubious at best.
Perhaps four tons would be one hell of a lot considering the mix often described. Whatever.
But at least we continue to get incoming information to perhaps finalize the whole puzzle, in due time.
