Quite a bit of that was the Mormon factor.
I am referring to the national ad buys, not the local/state buys. For example, Monday Night Football, both games in the 2 weeks before the vote I was seeing Obozo’s ugly mug up there 2 to 3 times each game. No Romney ads.
Supposedly Romney raised just as much or more than Obozo, and I was seeing plenty of Obozo ads (even in Idaho, a state he had no chance in), but very seldom a Romney ad.
And if he was spending just on local buys in the swing states, a fat lot of good that did him.
