MADISON, Wis. - Meriter Hospital said it's laying off about 50 employees.
In a statement Tuesday, Meriter Health Systems said it will see a significant drop in Medicare reimbursements beginning in January and the layoffs are a result of a plan that realigns positions in preparation for the cuts in Medicare reimbursement.
Meriter confirmed that 140 positions are being eliminated, but through attrition and reassignments, it only expects approximately 50 employees to lose their jobs.
Of Meriter's 3,500 employees, fewer than 4 percent were directly affected, according to the statement. Meriter said this change impacted all levels in the organization...

Remind me again who Wisconsin voted for?
bump
I forget....who did they vote for nationally???
Going to be more hospitals reduce staff not only because of pending cuts in Medicare but because of the 30 day between admissions rule for some diagnosis on 10/1/12 if you are covered by Medicare. Maybe those people can find employment in hospices or in the field of palliative care to which many of the patients will now be referred.
Hospitals receiving Medicare funds undergo rigorous inspections every year or so to make sure they’re in compliance with appropriate care standards, including at least minimal staffing patterns - Obamacare is going to lead to cuts in Medicare coverage not only up front by stealing $700 billion from Medicare funding, but also by causing hospitals and other practitioners to fall short in meeting required standards, leading to additional lost monies.....
Oh noes!!!
Or medical tourism in the Carribean, Pacific islands, off-shore in ships, etc.
And that is the sad part that most people do not understand.
Palliative care will become a cost/benefit assignment based on age and a “standard” of care but, BUT! It will be DNR assignments and only enough care to “reasonably” sustain life NOT provide absolutely required and necessary procedures.
That is only intravenous care and pain relief is provided.
You are determined and assigned to your last days.
There will be no CPR, No attempt to ressucitate. No intubation. No invasive procedure that would, could or might save your life.
Once you are assigned to palliative care you should contact everyone you love and let them know how much they meant in your life and apologize to these you wronged.
You will be absolutely FK’d.
I speak from experience.
This is OBVIOUSLY FALSE, and just cannot be happening.
The TV told me, over and over again, that anyone who said that Healthcare Companies would cut jobs as a result of Obamacare WAS OBVIOUSLY A RACIST!
HOW CAN THIS BE?
My DIL’s father is probably one step from palliative care. Just released from an longer than normal stay in the hospital for heart problems, infection with meds being prescribed which resulted in racing pulse, dangerously low blood pressure and renal problems. He’s not much older than I and I always thought he was in better physical condition. Did some research into this issue and shared the information with my son because his wife is the DIL and it is going to have a real effect on them, as well as the patient.
I certainly don’t ever intend to spend my last years bound to a bed and sustained by tubes and machines but in many cases treatment is denied because of pure governmental bureaucracy which, IMO, is unconscionable.
I sense your experience is more that sad - prayers up for you.
Yet no standards have been developed to cover chronic diseases or planned treatment that require discharge and re-admittance.
Whoda thunk it???
Shocker of shockers! When prices are capped, supply is reduced. Unexpectedly of course.
most of us voted for Romney - the election was fraudulently won by The Won due to voter fraud in Madistan and Milwaukestan. Busloads come in for same day registration and NO voter ID. The Pubbies passed voter ID, we used it for one primary election, then the low down scum Dems have tied it up in courts with their liberal buddie judges in Madistan. This IMHO is the third prez election that has been stolen from the GOP due to voter fraud.
Walker won 2 x in 1 1/2 years. We still have total GOP control of our state assembly and state senate. Now go figure how zippy wins this state. Fraud, sure as I’m typing here.
Do you think that Medicare should have an unlimited pipeline from the taxpayer’s wallet?
No. Just pointing out that no matter how many laws are written by congress, the natural laws of economics will not change.
I would prefer a free market approach to the health service industry.
Well, just look at this thread. If unlimited Medicare expenditures are a sacred cow on this supposedly conservative forum, then there’s no hope for any “repair” of the program.
I did not get that impression from reading this thread at all. The comments seem to be a vilification of Obamacare, not supporting medicare.
