Yowzers, it's been a good year for music. Music so good it made us want to lick the packaging it came in. Music so bad we had a bonfire piled high with it. Music so weird it made us question whether it was even music. After countless hours of in-office arguing, we've boiled the lot of it down to the 50 choicest cuts of 2012

That list is a joke, right?
I dropped out of the “popular music scene” about 45 years ago.
Don’t get my music from [broadcast] radio, nor from television (watch next-to-no tv at all).
I found where the music is “true to my outlook” — acoustic, bluegrass, some classical, even folk (if you can get past the leftist tilt).
No more pop for me.
It’s as alien to my sensibilities as is Obama.
I bought a half-dozen CDs this year. All of them are more than a decade old.
For me, new music stopped the day DLR left Van Halen.
Not everything new is garbage.
I bought one rock CD :
Donald Fagen’s “Sunken Condos”... it’s good, not great, but good.
I did purchase at least 50 vinyl records, all classical, from local used record stores in and around Los Angeles, this last year. I find that to be interesting and beautiful music, at bargain prices of usually $1.99 per LP, most are in mint condition.
I am fairly unimpressed with most pop and rock music these days. It sounds canned and vapid, and does not contain any honest human emotions.
I miss the days of Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, CSN&Y , Elton, Steely Dan, etc..
True. There is probably a lot of good stuff. It's my loss, but I just don't listen to any station that would play the music on this list.
This is a British list, so many of the performers are people who wouldn’t be known in the U.S. The interesting thing is some of the people on the list are performers from the U.S., who are known not here.
Ditto. I can't remember the last time I bought a "new" artist. With XM radio, I can listen to the old stuff I like.
I only recognize one name--Kanye "Sugar Cane" West--but only because he's said some dumb things that have made the news. Roll the list back to 1932 and I'd probably know every artist and every tune.
I doubt there is a radio station that plays the music on this list, but if there is, it’s in England.
That one sucks, as well; but at least I can say I am familiar with those artists...
Last time I bought an album was in 1975, which reminds me, I need to get a new needle.
The music died after the 1970s.
I’ve only heard of 2 of the artists, and none of the music. Oh well.
I saw Purity Ring in concert a few months ago. It was unlike anything I had ever seen or heard. Although I generally avoid electronic music, they were quite good....from Canada I believe.

Agreed. I have my Sirius/XM preset to 50's, 60's, 70's, Classic Rewind, and Deep Tracks. I don't like too much on the 70's station (not really into disco) but they play an occasional song I like.
What can I say, I'm an old Rock-n-Roll Dinosaur.
